From Pope Francis’ “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world) Easter Message and Blessing given before a crowd of thousands in St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday - April 20, 2014: From the very beginning of his pontificate, Pope Francis has demonstrated modesty and humility. He began his message with the simple greeting, “Happy Easter!” and continued to say…“What a joy it is for me to announce this message: Christ is risen! I would like it to go out to every house and every family, especially where the suffering is greatest, in hospitals, in prisons…” “…Christ is our peace and through him we implore peace for the entire world.” “Let us not close our hearts, let us not lose confidence, let us never give up: there are no situations which God cannot change, there is no sin which he cannot forgive if only we open ourselves to him. The Catholic Church is struggling with growing secularism, especially in Europe, where the number of churchgoers is severely declining. “How many deserts, even today, do humans beings need to cross — above all, the desert within, when we have no love for God or neighbour, when we fail to realize that we are guardians of all that the Creator has given us and continues to give us,” <…> Jesus, Lord, through your victory in the Desert, your redemptive Suffering and Resurrection — renewing, transforming, elevating the soul, true self of each believer, empower us, your people, to carry the soothing balm of mercy by the handful, to everyone we meet; to wash away, with the water of life, our own soul’s inner turmoil and that of others; to help us shed our tough outer skin, in order to see your wondrous Way…After all, you Resurrected, and so may we too, the faithful of Resurrection Parish, rise again. Sincere Easter greetings on the day of Resurrection and on the name day of our Parish - wishing you blessings of the Lord: H.E. Bishop Paulius Baltakis, OFM, the Provincial General of the Order of St Francis Little Brothers of Lithuania, St Casimir Province Fr.Astijus Kungys, OFM, and the priests serving in the parish, Pastor Fr.Jonas Sileika, OFM, the Superior of the monastery Fr.Augustine Simanavičius, OFM, associate pastor Fr.Aurelius Kazimieras Kasparavičius, O.F.M., Fr.Raimundas Bukauskas, OFM., Rev.Kazimieras Kaknevičius and deacon Dr.Kazimieras Ambrozaitis and family. Sincere thanks for all the donations to the parish and monastery; for enriching our liturgy to Music Director D.Viskontas, N.Benotas, organist D.Radtke, I.Beres, Youth Choir director Dana Biskys, “Kankles” ensemble Zibute Janeliunas and Aleksandra Valaitis, and to the parish choirs - "Occasional", "Volunge", “Volunge” women’s ensemble and the Children and Youth Choir, R.Radziunas and the lectors and everyone assisting with enriching Holy Week and Easter liturgies. Blessings of the Lord! For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them” Eph. 2:10. Dear Brothers and Sisters, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it,” said American writer William Arthur Ward. So that these words do not describe my actions, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all of you, on this Easter morning. All the work that has been done and the goals that have been accomplished by those not living in Lithuania have been the result of volunteering. Many of you volunteer your time and effort in your Lithuanian community; you aid missions around the world; you find time to help the clergy in your parish as well as those who visit your parish or mission. I thank you for your efforts, for which you do not expect any remuneration. I quote Sherry Anderson, who says, “Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're PRICELESS!” Your voluntary actions are not only noble but also reflect the most beautiful traits of your personalities. “The world depends on the hands of volunteers.” Our Lithuanian language, the continuation of Lithuanian traditions, the celebration of our faith all rest in your hands. Do not wash your hands of these responsibilities, even when it seems too difficult to continue, for it is our responsibility to pass these on to future generations. Lord, I pray that, in moments of weakness, there would appear those who offer their strength to continue your work, just as God sent helpers to the prophet Moses, “so that his hands remained steady until sunset,” (Ex. 17:12). Your hands, just like the hands of Moses, can be the saving grace of a nation. Brothers and Sisters, I thank God for you and for the spirit of volunteerism that beats in your hearts, which was sent to you by Christ. May the glory of the Lord strengthen your faith and renew your hope. Wishing you a blessed Easter, Msgr. Edmond J. Putrimas Camp KRETINGA wishes you a Blessed Easter and an amazing Springtime....
