Electrical Drives FED and ECM – brushless EC motors for engine cooling fan modules Product description The FED and ECM are brushless drives for engine cooling fan modules. The electronic commutation of the motors provides infinitely variable speed control. Compared with conventional brushed motors, the new drives offer advantages in terms of efficiency, installation space, electromagnetic compatibility, thermal resistance, and resilience against environmental influences. The drives can be optionally controlled via a PWM or LIN interface. Rotor position detection is sensorless. The infinitely variable speed control provides optimum on-deECM and FED mand cooling output. Customer benefits Additional protective functions are available to ▶ High motor efficiency of > 80% supplement the motor functions. Whenever the fan sticks, the permitted voltage/temperature range is ▶ Lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions exceeded, an overcurrent occurs, or internal errors ▶ Long service life > 2,000 h (no brush wear) are detected, the motor is switched off. The new ▶ Minimal noise drives cover a broad output range. ▶ Active and passive thermal cutout Result ▶ Highly resilient to environmental influences The reduced overall weight and increased efficiency ▶ Compact design are important for reducing fuel consumption and, ▶ Enhanced diagnostics functions in turn, carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. The ▶ Scalable power range from 300 W – 715 W European Energy Efficiency Directive describes brushless EC technology as the “best available ▶ Improved power density ≥ 220 W/kg Motor data Output FED 300 FED 400 technology”.
