Hamburg, March 16, 2015 New Hydrogen Filling Station Contributes To Energy Transition With the ceremonial opening of its new hydrogen filling station in Hamburg, Schnackenburgallee, the Shell company declares its commitment to the Mit der feierlichen Eröffnung seiner neuen Wasserstoff-Tankstelle development of a hydrogen infrastructure in Germany and worldwide. in For Shell it is the third station nationwide for hydrogen and the first where the H2 is produced on site. Other Shell H2 stations in Frankfurt, Wuppertal, Geisingen and Wendingen are soon to follow. "But our plans go further," announced Dr. Peter Blauwhoff, Chairman and CEO, Shell Oil Germany GmbH, Hamburg. Shell is participating in the new H2Mobility Initiative - together with Air Liquide, Daimler, Linde, OMV and TOTAL, - a massive expansion of the public hydrogen infrastructure, with 17 respective petrol stations currently. The goal is a network of some 400 H2 filling stations by the year 2023. Electric vehicles with fuel cells can then refuel in Germany. Enak Ferlemann (Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure), Frank Horch (Senator of the Department of Economics, Transport and Innovation, Hamburg, Germany) and Patrick Schnell (Chairman of the Clean Energy Partnership) opened the gas station with Blauwhoff. The station is supported by funding from the National Organization for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW) and is part of the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP). "Electric vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells drive with no harmful emissions. They also have a high range and can fill up within minutes. In order to enable the market introduction of hydrogen vehicles, we need a network of petrol stations, which cover the major metropolitan areas and connect them to each other. By the end of 2015, a total of 50 fueling stations in the metropolitan areas and also along major highways in the Federal Territory, should be available for the public. In that Germany will be the first country in the world that holds a nationwide primary care network of hydrogen fueling stations. The hydrogen fueling station on the Schnackenburgallee is promoted by the Federal Ministry of Transport and digital Infrastructure with around 1.4 million euros. “This is money well spent in the mobility of the future" Enak Ferlemann explains at the opening of the station in Hamburg. Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH 22284 Hamburg Internet http://www.shell.de "The production of hydrogen and its storage and use of, among other things, in transport contributes to improving the efficiency of renewable energies and makes a significant contribution to the energy revolution. At the Hamburg location, politics and economics stand side by side on the subject of environmentally friendly mobility beim Thema umweltfreundliche Mobilität Seite an Seite und bündeln bei and on this forward looking subject the powers are being gathered together. “This is an important contribution to a sustainable future" added Frank Horch for the Hamburg Senate. „Die Hamburg Hamburger state Landespolitik demonstriert mit breitensupport Unterstützung “The policy demonstrates with ihrer its broad of hydrogen technology, for example through the use of hydrogen buses, with the high train, or with incentives for automobile customer, that they are serious with the protection of the environment and new mobility concepts" said Patrick Schnell of the CEP. At the new station in Hamburg, hydrogen is produced on site by Electrolysis. With a highly effective and virtually maintenance-free PEM Electrolyzer, Shell wants to explore an innovative process for the production of hydrogen. The energy required for this comes from 50% certified renewable electricity, the remaining 50% is controlled energy. zum Gelingen der Energiewende Deutschland. Gerade By storing electrical energy in theinform of hydrogen, Shelldie contributes towards the success of the energy transition in Germany. Currently the storage of volatile energy amounts from wind and solar power is one of the unsolved challenges. "Electric vehicles with fuel cells can make a significant contribution to Germany in becoming the leading market for sustainable mobility," said Peter Blauwhoff. Their advantage lies in the significant reduction of CO2 emissions; the operation of a fuel cell vehicle is even considered locally as emission free. Blauwhoff, while stressing that H2Mobility remains dependent on the support of the policy: "The only way to achieve this is to ensure pioneering companies are not disadvantaged in this field and the hydrogen economy becomes a reality soon. We therefore welcome the commitment of the Federal Government. " Shell views hydrogen as a way to diversify the fuel supply. However, a critical quantity of vehicles is necessary and - so that drivers can refuel their hydrogen cars - the creation of sufficient H2 fueling stations. Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH 22284 Hamburg Internet http://www.shell.de With the new and innovative range offered at the Shell gas station in Schnackenburgallee, motor vehicles of almost all types are supplied the correct fuel, whether it be gasoline, diesel, LPG (LPG), natural gas (CNG) or now even hydrogen. The gas station is located on the busy arterial road Schnackenburgallee in close proximity to the A7 motorway. The Clean Energy Partnership - a group of nineteen leading companies - has made it its mission to establish hydrogen as the "fuel of the future". Air Liquide, the Berlin Transport BVG, BMW, Bohlen & Doyen, Daimler, EnBW, Ford, GM / Opel, the Hamburg elevated railway, Honda, Hyundai, Linde, Shell, Siemens, Stuttgart Trams SSB, TOTAL, Toyota and Volkswagen, technology -, mineral oil and energy companies as well as the majority of the largest automobile manufacturers and leading enterprises of public transport are participating in the groundbreaking project for the future. Since 2008, the CEP has been promoted by the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW).
