Newcastle – Nyngan, Saturday 26th September Lunch & Dinner Welcome to our 8 day adventure to Outback NSW. This morning we complete our pickups and travel via the Golden Highway through the towns of Denman & Sandy Hollow to our morning tea stop (out of coach) at Merriwa. From Merriwa we travel through the rural town of Dubbo which is located at the intersection of the Mitchell, Newell and Golden Highways. We’ll stop in at the Dubbo RSL for a lunch break (included) before continuing on to our overnight stop in Nyngan. On arrival in Nyngan we’ll stop in at the Nyngan Museum and Railway Station for an insight into the early explorers of the region and a look at the 1990 flood that devastated the town and surrounds. Check into our overnight accommodation and freshen up for dinner. Overnight: Country Manor Motor Inn, Nyngan Day 2. Nyngan – Broken Hill, Sunday 27th Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner After a hearty breakfast we leave Nyngan and take a left hand turn onto the Barrier Highway and head west. A travel day today takes us into the outback and beyond. This morning we’ll stop in at Cobar for morning tea (out of coach). Cobar is on the crossroads of the Barrier Highway and Kidman Way (to Qld), the Cobar Shire is 2/3 the size of Tasmania. We will continue on to our lunch stop at Wilcannia where the Barrier Highway crosses the Darling River, relax and enjoy lunch (included) and a break at the Wilcannia Golf Club. This afternoon we travel on to Broken Hill, on arrival we’ll check in to our accommodation for the next 3 nights, unpack and freshen up for dinner in the restaurant. Ibis Styles, Broken Hill Day 3. Broken Hill, Monday 28th Breakfast & Dinner After a leisurely breakfast we’ll set out for some sightseeing around Broken Hill. First off it’s the Broken Hill Visitors Centre to pick up our local Guide who will take us on a guided tour around the city of Broken Hill and outskirts. We’ll stop for morning tea (out of coach) at the town lookout and then continue on our tour. Our day includes White’s Mineral Art and Living Museum, Pro Hart Gallery, Palace Hotel where parts of “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” were filmed and artworks that cover the walls. In the meantime you’ll have some free time to wander around and have lunch (your choice at own expense). This evening we’ll take a short drive out to the ‘Living Desert and Sculptures’ for a sunset you’ll never forget, then return to the Hotel for dinner. Ibis Styles, Broken Hill Day 4. Broken Hill & Silverton, Tuesday 29th Breakfast & Dinner Enjoy breakfast in the restaurant before we pick up our local guide and start our adventure out to Silverton. The town sprang up after the discovery of rich silver deposits, although it was soon eclipsed by an even richer silver-lead-zinc ore body at nearby Broken Hill. The town is often referred to as a ghost town, however, there remains a small permanent population, about 89, and mainly tourist related businesses. Back in town we’ll have free time to purchase lunch (at own expense). This afternoon includes a visit to the Royal Flying Doctors Service, operations began at the Broken Hill base in 1936 and is the only RFDS base in Australia where visitors can see a working RFDS Base in action every day of the week. Before returning to our Hotel we’ll step back in time and pop in to Bells 1950’s Milk Bar. Check out the original 1950’s decor, old style malted milks and soda spiders along with the attached milk bar museum and nostalgic gift shop. This evening you can take a walk around the corner to Broken Hill train station and watch the Indian Pacific come in at 5.25pm, hang around if you wish for the 6.55pm departure and dinner will be arranged for 7.15pm this evening. Broken Hill - Mildura, Wednesday 30th Breakfast & Dinner After breakfast we pack our bags and board the coach for our morning visit to the Silver City Mint and Art Centre. Home to The Big Picture, the World's Largest Acrylic Painting on Canvas by a single artist you can experience the sensation of 'walking into a painting' while having the impression of being in the actual Outback. You might like to purchase some jewellery in the gift shop, silver, amber or iron ore. There’s also the Chocolate Factory for some last minute gift ideas. You’ll then have some free time afterwards to purchase some lunch (own expense) before we hit the Silver City Highway and travel through to Mildura. We’ll check in to the Commodore Motor Inn just across the road from the Murray River, maybe take a walk before dinner tonight. Overnight: Commodore Motor Inn, Mildura Day 6. Mildura – West Wyalong, Thursday 1st October Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner We say goodbye after breakfast and head out of Mildura and travel along the Sturt Highway through the town of Euston and onto Balranald where we’ll stop for morning tea (out of coach). Onwards to Hay and the Shear Outback Woolshed where we’ll watch a live display of sheep shearing, see how it’s done and have any questions answered from the shearer themselves. A light lunch (included) will be served in the café and some free time to look in the gift shop before we head off. This afternoon brings us into the township of West Wyalong, this district is the largest cereal-growing centre in NSW. Eucalyptus oil production started in 1907 and the West Wyalong area became one of the major world exporters of the product. We’ll check in to our accommodation and freshen up before dinner at the Golf Club. Overnight: Club Inn Resort, West Wyalong Day 7. West Wyalong - Mudgee, Friday 2nd October Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner This morning after breakfast we pack our bags (maybe pack an overnight bag for our last night) and drive on to Cowra and the Japanese Gardens where we’ll stop for morning tea (out of coach). Continuing east on the Mid-Western Highway our next stop is Bathurst, often referred to as the Gold Country as it was the site of the first gold discovery and where the first gold rush occurred in Australia. Our lunch (included) is at the Bathurst RSL in the heart of town with time to relax and enjoy the break. We continue our adventure onto the Castlereagh Highway through Kandos and arrive this afternoon in the beautiful town of Mudgee. Stretch your legs and enjoy the countryside before we sit down for our last dinner together this evening. Overnight: The Lodge, Mudgee Day 8. Mudgee - Home, Saturday 3rd October Breakfast A last relaxing breakfast before we pack the coach and head off but before we leave Mudgee we will take a tour and morning tea at Gooree Park. As one of the district’s most historic and picturesque properties, Gooree Park today has an enviable reputation as one of the country’s leading thoroughbred breeding grounds and with the largest vineyard in the Mudgee region, a passion to craft thoroughbred wines. Their knowledgeable tour guide jumps aboard the coach to tell stories and take you on a tour through the picturesque grounds with the opportunity to meet some of our past and future horse racing champions. Morning tea and wine tasting is included in our visit. Then it’s time to start heading home via Merriwa where we’ll stop and you can purchase some lunch (own expense). It’s then time to start saying goodbye to your fellow travelling companions and share stories of the Outback Adventure, driving back through the Upper Hunter Valley and back into Newcastle arriving back home late afternoon in the afternoon.
