Connecting a Gaming System to the GVSU Network If you own a PlayStation 3, Wii U, Wii, or XBOX 360 you can connect to the Grand Valley State University Housing wired network. It is recommended that you connect gaming systems to our wired network for better performance and more reliability. To be able to connect to the GVSU Network you will need the MAC or Physical address of your gaming system. Once you have your MAC address you will need to stop by the IT Help Desk at the Allendale or Pew Campus to register you gaming system. Below is a list of steps to obtain the MAC address for the previous listed systems. **NOTE** You will NOT be able to connect your wireless hand-held gaming system to the Grand Valley State University wireless network. XBOX360 *NOTE* These steps are for a wired connection only. 1) Turn on the Console. 2) Scroll to the right until you reach the Settings header. 3) Select System and scroll down to select Network Settings 4) Select the Wired Network tile and the following screen will display. 5) Select Configure Network and the following screen will display. 6) Scroll over to Additional Settings and select Advanced Settings. 7) Under Advanced Settings you MAC address will be listed. The MAC Address is displayed on the left side of the screen in a format like 12AB34CD56EF. When you go to provide this information in another system, you may have to type it in the normal format of 12:AB:34:CD:56:EF. Select Done when you’re finished. XBOX360 *NOTE* These steps are for a wireless connection only. 8) Turn on the Console. 9) Scroll to the right until you reach the Settings header. 10) Select System and scroll down to select Network Settings 11) Select the Wireless Network that you would like to connect to 12) After selecting the Wireless Network tile and the following screen will display. 13) Select Configure Network and the following screen will display. 14) Scroll over to Additional Settings and select Advanced Settings. 15) Under Advanced Settings you MAC address will be listed. The MAC Address is displayed on the left side of the screen in a format like 12AB34CD56EF. When you go to provide this information in another system, you may have to type it in the normal format of 12:AB:34:CD:56:EF. Select Done when you’re finished. PS3 *NOTE* These steps are for a wired connection only. The PS3 cannot connect to the Housing wireless network at GVSU. 1. From the main menu, select Settings. 2. Scroll all the way to the bottom and select Network Settings. 3. Select Settings and Connection Status List. 4. The MAC Address is displayed on the screen. OR 1. Select Settings on the PS3 Home Menu. 2. Navigate down and select [System Settings]. 3. Select [System Information]. Here you will find your MAC address. Be sure to note down the entire code, including colons. Wii U *NOTE* It is recommended that you purchase a USB wired network adapter for the Wii. The Wii U is the only device that may still work on a wireless connection but for reliability we recommend a wired connection. 1. On your Wii U, go to System Settings. 2. Tap on the Internet settings button 3. Next, select the View MAC Address option. 4. You should now see your Wii U’s MAC address. Wii *NOTE* It is recommended that you purchase a USB wired network adapter for the Wii. Without the adapter it will not be able to be connected to GVSU wired network. 1. Power on your Wii console and press the A Button on the Wii Remote to reach the Wii main menu. Use the Wii Remote to select the "Wii" button. 2. Select "Wii Settings" to access the "Wii System Settings" menu. 3. Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select "Internet." 4. Select "Console Information." 5. The Wii Console's MAC address will be shown at the top of the screen.
