Third MPH Career Guidance Workshop
The UT Department of Public Health and Career Services held a career
guidance workshop on March 4, 2015. During MPH Career Workshop #3,
students learned about tailoring resumes and cover letters for job applications. Under the direction of Mary Beth Browder from Career Services,
students reviewed resumes from former MPH students in conjunction with
sample job descriptions.
Group discussion included strengths and potential areas of improvement for
the resumes along with how each resume could be modified to fit with
specific job requirements. Time was also spent reviewing cover letters of
MPH alumni, particularly looking at how to structure a letter, to whom to
address the letter, and the importance of including details that demonstrate
knowledge of the organization and specific reasons for why one is a good
match for the position.
The workshop was a great opportunity for professional development, providing real-world examples of successful resumes and cover letters for MPH
students.
Mark your calendars for MPH Career Workshop #4: Interview Skills on
Friday, April 17th from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. in Hodges Library, Room 213.
PHGSA at Ronald McDonald House
On Saturday, March 7, MPH students participated
in the service activity sponsored by PHGSA. The
house is open to any family with a child who is
receiving medical treatment at an area hospital,
including East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
Students gathered at Ronald McDonald and helped
them get the house spick and span for their 30th
anniversary celebration on March 8, 2015.
Keep an eye on for more volunteering service
opportunities with the PHGSA in coming months.
