Term Two, Week 2 – 2015

TERM 2, WEEK 2
Rāapa 29th Paenga-whāwhā 2015
Wednesday, 29th April 2015
ANZAC Day It was great to see many of our students at the Anzac service at Hastings on Saturday. Of
particular interest to me was the unveiling of Major General Sir Andrew Russell‟s statue. A number of our
students were there as family members, celebrating their Great Grandfathers‟ achievements which was a
heart warming thing to be part of. If you have time, do visit the statue which is located in the centre of
town close to the Cenotaph.
Three Way Conferences / Interviews These are scheduled for the 28th and 29th of May. Please book
online, the instructions are in our newsletter today. The code you will need to enter is P4GYB. For those of
you in Waitio, Kiwirua and Matapiro only some of you will need to complete a 3WC. If your child‟s birthday
falls this term you will need to have a conference with your teacher. Any questions or problems ring Jennie
in the office.—Sean Moore
LAKE RUNANGA PLANTING DAY
We have made some great gains in our efforts to
restore Lake Runanga this year. We have fenced off
another kilometre of farm land from the lake and
sprayed over 20ha. of willows on 9 different
properties. The project is really taking off. We are now
getting ready for this years planting on Alan Gunn‟s
property. We have around 18,000 trees to plant so
bring as many people as you can muster. I hope to see
you and your families there.

Where?
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.”
Praise and feedback is essential to ensure children
feel they are on the right track. Shirley Clark in
her book, “Feedback in the Primary Classroom”,
outlines how important it is to give children
feedback on the goal that they are working on. She
exposes the myth that correcting children‟s writing
with red alone will not improve their writing. It
might help in showing a child what they have to
correct, but possibly will not improve their actual
knowledge of writing. In most of the children‟s
books you will notice that teachers do try and give
feed forward and outline the next steps in a
written piece of work. At home we encourage you
to give feedback on what students do well and
quote examples from their writing. Starting with “I
like the way you….” Or “well done its clear to me…”
Saturday 23rd May from 8:30am to start
planting by 9. Stop for lunch at midday and
finish up around 4pm. The rained off back
up day is Sunday the 24th May. Listen out
on Radio Kidnappers & Radio Kahungunu for
postponement if its raining.
