TERM 1, WEEK 9 Rāapa 1st Paenga-whāwhā 2015 Wednesday, 1st April 2015 Cricket Team As part of giving our students a wide range of sporting activities and experiences, 12 students from the senior end of the school travelled to Maraekakaho yesterday to play cricket. With the buzz and excitement of our national team our students performed with enthusiasm and energy. Unfortunately on this account as our national team found out, playing the home team proved to be difficult! Maraekakaho set a high total of 167 with 3 wickets in hand. We set about quickly with the first 2 overs netting 37 runs. Following this we struggled with the loss of a number of wickets to keep our target on track falling short by about 40 runs. Special mention to Sam W and Freddy H who bowled economically and showed some resilience with the bat. Writing Update Our staff have been very creative with their writing programmes this term. Remember that our focus is to lift our school wide data to the National Standard for writing to 85% at or above. Currently our statistics show a 76% at or above. We have individual targets in class and have some key writing strategies in place for the remainder of 2015. If you as a parent could commit to writing letters or responses to students as part of a creative questioning project for term 2 and 3 please email me at [email protected]. We hope to set up a number of children to write to one person each from the community and have written communication with them. More will be given to you should you choose to be part of this programme. I have enjoyed reading with students over the last few weeks and watching them grow in their reading progress.
