Canine Good Neighbour Test JUDGING ASSIGNMENTS-OBEDIENCE & RALLY Hosted By: Northern Lights Prairie Region GSD Club FRIDAY, JUNE 5 Obedience & Rally rings INSIDE “This CKC program identifies and rewards responsible and caring owners and their canine partners! The purpose of the CGN program test is to ensure that our dogs are accepted as valued members of the community and can be counted on to present good manners at home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs. The program was created to assist canine owners in combating anti-dog sentiment and to enhance community awareness of responsible dog ownership and the benefits associated with dog ownership.” (Taken from the Canine Good Neighbour Program Participant Handbook, available from the CKC by calling the order desk at 416-675-5511 or www.ckc.ca) This test is not a competition calling for precision performance by the handler and dog. Rather, it assesses the handler and dog’s relationship together with the handler’s ability to control the dog. We recommend that you read the CGN Participant Handbook so that you will be familiar with what you and your dog will be required to do. ENTRY FEES: $25.00 per dog (this includes the $5.00 CKC fee for CGN Certification) Entries at this pre-entry price of $25.00 will close May 14, 2015. Lady went on to become the #1 All-Breed Obedience dog in Canada. Deb once again had the #1 dog with her homebred Sheltie, Brock. Deb has seen 10 all-breed placements in Canada with her Shelwin Shelties over the years. She has now produced 7 generations of performance Shelties who excel in numerous dog sports with their owners. Her training school, Campaign Dog Academy, has seen a number of students nationally ranked in obedience over the past 15 years, with 3 students achieving #1 status. Deb has been judging since 1995. She is a CKC, AKC, and BKC and UKC Obedience and Rally judge and an HDOC life member. In her spare time, Deb enjoys travelling, gardening, grandchildren and now winters in Florida for three months. Good luck to all competitors at the Northern Alberta Canine Association trials! C.E. (TED) FAHLGREN – Ted is married to Louise and has two sons, Geoffrey and Gregory. I have always lived with dogs. My father bred Setters (English and Irish) and had the top Setters in Western Canada in the 1940’s. Although his work made him step back from breeding, we always had dogs in the house. I purchased a Lhasa Apso from Dr. Ellen Brown’s breed lines in 1972. After entering him in a couple of sanction matches, I was “bitten” and started showing. I donated a lot of points before I realized he was not going to be a conformation champion. “Tor” continued to be the light of my life until he went to the Rainbow Bridge. At that point I purchased another Lhasa from Dr. Brown’s line and got back into the show ring. While showing Majic in sanctions matches I met my wife, Louise, who was showing a Dalmatian and we got married and started breeding dogs in 1982. Our first litter was born almost exactly three months after we were married. We have successfully bred Lhasa Apsos and Dalmatians and one litter of Miniature Poodles. The Mini Poodle litter produced a wonderful male (Owen) who, at last count, had earned 18 titles (the mini who can do anything!). In Dalmatians, we have done limited breeding with careful guidance from Charlie and Linda Cyopik, producing champions with each litter. In Lhasas, we have had our greatest success with over 30 Champions. BIS/BISS Can/Am.Ch. Vanir’s Challenger put us on the map and his son, Can.Am.Ch. Vanir’s Knight Challenge won Best of Winners at the American National. Just retired, BISS/CanGChEx/SweCh/NorCh/IntlCh. Vanir’s Xtra Special Blend was the top Lhasa in Canada in 2012, top male Lhasa in Sweden in 2013. He was the first Lhasa Apso to win the Grand Champion title and is the only Lhasa to date to hold the title of GCh.Excellent. He won Specialties in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and his daughter (GCh. Lasacas Vanir Xtra Wicked) won the Canadian National in 2013. I have been involved in all aspects of the dog fancy, serving on Conformation Council for seven years, holding essentially all executive positions in all-breed clubs, National and Provincial breed clubs 5 and a Provincial Group club. I began judging in 2000 and presently judge Groups 1,4,5 and 6. F. SUSAN GODEK – I have owned and exhibited German Shepherd Dogs for over fifty years. Surigo Shepherds have been exhibited in Conformation, Obedience, Tracking, and Herding, worked as service, search, and rescue dogs as well as assistance dogs. I owned and exhibited the first German Shepherd bitch to be awarded the Award of Excellence and ROM title by the GSDCA, bred and owned eighteen American Champions, seven Canadian Champions, and obtained eleven Select Titles. I served as President of The American German Shepherd Dog Charitable Foundation for thirteen years and as Director for five years. I served several years as chairperson for the GSDCA Junior Showmanship Program. Judging for twenty years is one of the most enjoyable activities I have experienced in dogs. I presently judge the Herding Group, Working Group, Miscellaneous Group, Junior Showmanship, and BIS (in the US). I have judged in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China. I attended Crufts Dog show in 2003 and the German Sieger show in 2004 and 2005. I judged Best of Breed at the German Shepherd Dog Club of Canada 2012 National Specialty. I am a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, German Shepherd Dog Club of Canada, and Life member of the Grand Canyon German Shepherd Dog Club, Scottsdale Dog Fanciers, and Phoenix Field & Obedience. I belong to the American Dog Show Judges, Dog Judges Association of American, Senior Conformatioin Judges Association, Western Dog Judges Association of America, Scottsdale Dog Judges Workshop, Working Dog Club of Arizona, Stewards Club of Arizona, and Oregon Dog Judges. I have attended many educational seminars and Institutes including the AKC and ACEF Judging Institutes, the AKC and ACEF Advanced Herding Institutes, the AKC and ACEF Advanced Working Institutes, the ACEF Advanced Toy Institutes, the AKC and ACEF Advanced Working Institutes, the ACEF Advanced Toy Institutes, American Dog Show Judges Advanced Institute for twelve years studying Herding, Working, Sporting, and Non-Sporting breeds. (Ms. Godek is also judging the Northern Lights German Shepherd Dog Club Specialty and the Alberta Bouvier des Flandres Specialty at this show) JAMIE HUBBARD – Jamie was born in Australia where he attended shows with his parents, who were breeders of Basset Hounds and Dachshunds. While helping them show, he started the search for a breed to call his own. Soon he became enamored of the American Cocker Spaniel, which led to a lifelong dedication to the breed. Jamie has bred Champion Cockers in Australia, New Zealand, Italy and the USA. Jamie had the honor of owning two top winning English Setters, who were Australia’s #1 dog of All Breeds in 2002, 2003 and 2004, among their accomplishments were Best in Show wins at both Melbourne Royal and Sydney Royal Shows, the two largest shows in the Southern Hemisphere. Now residing in the USA, Jamie continues to successfully breed several spaniel breeds under the Clussexx kennel name. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Bloomington Indiana Kennel Club and holds membership in the Santa Barbara Kennel Club. Jamie has judged all around the world and considers his American Cocker National Specialty and Westminster Kennel Club assignments as career highlights. (Mr. Hubbard is also judging the American Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada National Specialty at this show) DOUGLAS A. JOHNSON – of Bloomington, Indiana, received his first Clumber Spaniel as a birthday present from his parents before he could drive. This gift lead to a life-time dedication to the sport of purebred dogs. Breeding under the world-famous Clussexx banner, he has produced over 150 Champion Clumber Spaniels, Sussex Spaniels, Welsh Springer Spaniels, English Toy Spaniels and Pekingese. He has a passion for breeding dogs and continues to run a top breeding program today. His dogs have won more than 125 Best in Show awards and 12 National Specialty wins across three breeds. He has bred Best in Show winners in four different breeds. He had the distinct honor of producing two Westminster Best in Show winners; in 1996, the Clumber Spaniel “Brady”, Ch. Clussexx Country Sunrise was crowned Best in Show, and again in 2009 with the Sussex Spaniel “Stump”, Ch. Clussexx Three D Grinchy Glee. To date, “Stump” is the oldest dog to ever win the coveted Westminster Best in show award. Mr. Johnson is the only breeder to have bred Westminster Best in Show winners in two different breeds. Mr. Johnson was awarded the American Kennel Club’s SPORTING BREEDER OF THE YEAR award in 2005. He is a member of the Santa Barbara Kennel Club, Bloomington Indiana Kennel Club, 6 VENDOR SPACE Please see Vendor Booth application form at www.northernalbertacanine.com or email: [email protected] NACA JUNIOR HANDLING (CONFORMATION & OBEDIENCE) SUNDAY, JUNE 7 to be held during the lunch break, juniors register at the show Secretary table 10:00 to 11:30. He has judged extensively in the United States, and several times in Canada, Taiwan and China. Dave counts amongst the highlights of his judging career assignments at AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and The Miniature Pinscher Club of America National Specialty three times. RONALD MAHON – Thank you for inviting me to judge this prestigious event. I am looking forward to it. I have been involved in “dogs” for 40 years. I have bred Boston Terriers, Bulldogs and Pugs. I have finished Champions in both Canada and the United States. I have been involved with the Elgin County Kennel Club for 40 years and have held several positions on the executive and show committee; presently as the Treasurer (for over 20 years). I am also involved with various Specialty clubs in both Canada and the United States. For several years I took on the task of Audit Committee member for the Canadian Kennel Club. I have been judging for approximately 18 years and I am licensed for all-breeds in Canada. I have judged in United States, Australia, Philippines, Argentina, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, China and Columbia as well as Canada. I am still actively involved ring stewarding at various local shows and specialties. I am the coordinator of the local judges study group, to help educate both licensed and aspiring judges to understand and become better at judging different breeds. In my “work” life I am a controller for a heating and air conditioning company and also the regional district accountant for a major manufacturer and supplier of heating and air conditioning equipment in Canada. GWEN ROSWELL – Gwen started in the world of dog training and showing as a teenager with a Norwegian Elkhound who definitely was not going to be trained as an obedience dog but was a beautiful, loving companion. “Cindy” taught me that the dog world was where I wanted to be and it took many years to have another dog. Since then I hae been owned by Doberman Pinschers and Shetland Sheepdogs. They have earned their Utility titles in Canada and the USA as well as some UKC and Rally titles. I am an Obedience and Rally Judge and am looking forward to many years of training and judging beautiful dogs. LINDA SCANLON – Linda began in AKC Conformation as a teenager with Australian Terriers. She bred/owned/handled the first triple titled Aussie (Conformation, Obedience, Earth Dog). Saluki’s entered her life 42 years ago and from a small breeding program there have been multiple Champions in the ring and field, including Specialty winners, dual titlists, tracking and obedience titled dogs. Linda was the first person to earn the AKC UD on a Saluki (2 individuals) and also earned multiple Will Judy/Dog World Awards and all breed Highs in Trial in the US and Canada (and the only Canadian UD titled Saluki we think). Initially, Linda was approved to judge Salukis and Australian Terriers and currently judges BIS, Hound and Herding Groups in the US, all levels of obedience and rally, lure coursing and junior showmanship. She is the only AKC judge fully approved for this combination of events. She has 7 judged multiple specialties including having been twice selected by her peers to judge Conformation at the National Saluki Specialty. Out of country assignments include Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, Germany, Finland, New Zealand and Sweden. (Ms. Scanlon is judging Conformation, Obedience and Rally at this show) JANET SINCLAIR/LARRY SINCLAIR – Our life in the world of dogs began in 1961 when we purchased a female Boxer as a pet. It wasn’t long before members of the Spokane Boxer Club made contact with us. Later a member offered us a show potential female on a co-ownership. And the rest is history. In the beginning we were breeder/owner handlers. Then, in the early seventies, Larry became an American Kennel Club Licensed All-Breed Professional Handler. He professionally handled dogs from all of the Groups but specialized in Boxers. In addition to assisting with the show operation, Janet was a Kindergarten teacher. In the early years we entered about 25-30 shows in Canada. Our first trip to the Canadian Shows was Penticton in our pick-up camper with just our own show potential female and another male. We were awarded Winners Dog and Winners Bitch from the well-respected judge Bob Waters. Needless to say, we were hooked. We finished many AKC Champions to their Canadian Championships. As more shows were being added in the United States, we didn’t have the time to travel out of the country. So, in return, we showed many Canadian Champions to their AKC Championships. We retired from handling in 1998. The natural progression for us was to apply for judging. Larry is approved for the Sporting, Hound and Working Groups plus a few additional breeds and BIS. Janet judges the Working, Non-Sporting and Herding Groups and BIS. We have judged across the United States as well as several shows in other countries. Thank you for inviting us back to Canada again as judges. HANDLER SET-UP’S (MORE THAN FIVE DOGS) SAME FEES AS R.V. PARKING-PLEASE RESERVE!!! We are most recognized for Am/Can/Int’l/Jap. Ch. Golden Hylite’s The Phantom ROM/ROMC and Am/Can/Int’l Ch. Golden Hylite’s Phantasee. Phantasee became #6 all-breed in Canada, the first Shetland Sheepdog to acquire that honor, in 1998. We celebrate 137 Champions. In the last three years I have also bred Coton de Tulears, but not leaving behind my beloved shelties. My husband Bill is my biggest fan and the best kennel help. He is now retired but I am still breeding, showing and judging. We have two beautiful daughters, Christine and Sandy, who were excellent junior handlers and have moved on to be excellent mothers and career women. We are blessed to have four wonderful grandchildren. I have a passion for judging dogs. It is such a thrill to put your hands on what I term, delicious dogs. I am licensed for Group 7 and Group 3, and am on permit for the first half of Toys. Thank you so much for the privilege of judging at your show. (Mrs. Tibben is also judging the Shetland Sheepdog Fanciers Specialty at this show) JUDY WEBB – knew from a small child that she would grow up to be involved in dogs or horses. Having been raised with Boxers and Bostons as well as many mixed breed dogs, her interest never changed. Shortly after getting married a purebred Basenji happened to her. After attending a dog match and meeting other people with the same breed, she was bitten by the dog show bug and the itch has never gone away. She realized that although she loved the breeding aspect of dogs her talent was in presentation. She became a handler and during 30 years finished dogs of at least 65 different breeds with group and/or Best in Show wins on 34 different breeds. Her judging career began in 1990 and she now judges Sporting, Hound, Terrier and Toy groups with a few other breeds and Best in Show. She has judged in many foreign countries as well as Canada and almost all of the U.S. She has been honoured to have judged many National Specialties and some of the most prestigious shows in the U.S. including Westminster several times. Thank you so much for the honor of once again judging in Canada. Complimentary bottled water at this show is donated by Cathy French Photography Thank you! 8 POSTAL CODE/ZIP ________________________________ _________________________________ EMAIL CELL PHONE Please indicate total width/length of vehicle including pens, racks, awnings, etc. Type: Motor Home_________________ Vehicle/Trailer_____________________ Other______________________ Bump Out?
