4th Sunday of Easter
PASTOR’S COLUMN
CROSSROADS PRO-LIFE NEXT WEEKEND
Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, is Good Shepherd
Sunday. It is an appr opr iate day to pr ay for vocations
to the priesthood. Two seminarians assigned to our parish this year, Deacon Jeremy Hans and Andrew Dellasega, will complete their ser vice to Queen of All
Saints Parish this weekend. Deacon Jeremy will be ordained to the priesthood in Omaha on June 6. I am planning on being present for that joyous occasion where I
have been many times before for the priesthood ordinations of other transitional deacons from Omaha. The
most recent, last spring, was the ordination of Fr. Benjamin Boyd. Coincidently, Father Boyd will celebr ate
Mass at QAS tomorrow morning (Monday) at 8:15 a.m.
for the school children. Please join him if you are able.
Drew Dellasega will spend the summer immersed in a
Spanish language program and he plans to return to Kenrick Seminary in the fall as a Second Year Theologian.
Our prayers are with Jeremy and Drew as they serve the
Lord in obedience to their bishops. As pastor of QAS, I
pray that other young men in our parish would consider a
priestly vocation as a real option as they discern their lifevocation. Joe Detwiler and Adam Pleimann of our parish
are currently enrolled at Cardinal Glennon College Seminary, and both would love to share their story with the
young guys at Queen. Joe graduated from DeSmet Jesuit
and Adam from Oakville High. More importantly, both
of them learned the rudiments of their faith right here at
Queen of All Saints…..
Congratulations to the Second Grade Students of QAS
parish that made their First Communion yesterday.
They now join us in the Communion procession, proclaiming their “Amen”, their sign of faith before the
Real Presence of Christ….. Please make your pledge
to the Annual Catholic Appeal in the church hall today
and help Christ “Build My Church” with a generous and
grateful gift.
Next weekend, a representative from Crossroads Pro-Life,
a group of college students walking from Seattle, WA to
Washington, DC, in order to spread the message of the
Gospel of Life, will be visiting the par ish and speaking
briefly at the end of all the weekend Masses. They will
be speaking about their mission, and asking for the support of our parish. Please consider supporting these faithfilled college students as they begin their walk for life
across the United States.
Monsignor Joseph Simon
YOU’RE INVITED!
ARCHBISHOP’S PRAYER BREAKFAST, MAY 13
The Sixth Annual Archbishop’s Gospel of Life Prayer
Breakfast will take place Wednesday, May 13, at 6:00
a.m. at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Clayton. The event
begins with the rosary at 6 a.m. followed by the celebration of Mass at 6:30 a.m. Following breakfast, the keynote address will be given by the Most Reverend Paul
Sirba, Bishop of Duluth. Contact Msgr . Simon
([email protected]) to r eser ve a spot at the par ish table.
Reservations are limited to nine seats.
ACA GUEST SPEAKER THIS WEEKEND
This weekend please welcome Ms. Madeleine Coutre, a
Campus Ministry Intern at the Catholic Student Center at
Washington University. She will be promoting the Annual Catholic Appeal. The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA)
has one primary goal – fulfilling the command of Christ
to Build My Church. Often the Appeal is seen only as a
collection or fundraising appeal. Yes, the ACA seeks to
raise money, but only so that the Catholic community has
the resources to announce the Gospel and invite others to
a life of holiness. Please prayerfully consider making a
pledge to the 2015 ACA. Your gift will help provide “an
inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled and unfading…more precious than gold…indescribable and glorious”. (cf. I Peter 1:3-9) This is the Church we are building, with the grace of God.
The Challenge Goal for Queen of All Saints for the 2015
ACA is $190,309 and our New Donor Goal is 115. In the
words of Archbishop Robert Carlson, “When people give
to the Appeal, they become more interested in the mission of the larger Church. With this in mind, I am asking
all parishes to make every effort to increase their participation percentage.”
The 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) “Build My
Church” is now under way in the chur ch hall after all
weekend Masses. The ACA team will be available in the
church hall to assist parishioners as they make their
pledge to the campaign this weekend and May 2-3 and
May 9-10.
Thank you for contributing to the ACA!

4th Sunday of Easter
“I am the good shepherd...and I lay down my life for the
sheep...and they will heed my voice.” John 10:14-16
When you pray, do you only ask Jesus for things that you
want? Do you ever ask Jesus what He wants you to do?
How do you listen for the response? The answer is usually
in “quiet whispers”. Take time in silent, daily prayer to hear
His answer.
DONATE VIA FAITH DIRECT THIS EASTER
The Lord is risen! As Chr ist's disciples, we are called
to go forth and spread the good news of His Resurrection.
Our parish's many ministries are examples of how many
of you answer that call. Our ministries require not only
gifts of time and talent, but also of financial help. Please
prayerfully consider supporting Queen of All Saints with
electronic donations through Faith Direct. You can sign
up online at www.faithdirect.net using our church
code MO86 or mail-in an enrollment form from the parish office.
Ordinary monthly operations continue during the Capital
Improvement Appeal cur r ently under way at Queen of
All Saints. We appreciate the extra financial donations
from all our families as the parish strives for more solid
financial footing after the mold crisis of last fall which
significantly impacted our financial reserves. Please consider adding Mold Remediation Appeal to your monthly
or weekly donation choices at Faith Direct, the parish's
electronic eGiving program. Thank you for your prayerful and financial support of Queen of All Saints Parish.
Msgr. Simon and the Finance Council
SUPPORT QUEEN OF ALL SAINTS SCHOOL BY
DONATING TO THE
“TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND”
A monthly contribution to the Tuition Assistance Fund
will assist QAS in providing $35,956 in tuition grants to
16 school families that wer e awar ded tuition assistance for 2014-15. Your donation provides financial assistance to those families who have qualified for tuition
assistance. Are you someone looking for a way to assist
a school family with their tuition? It’s a win-win decision, both for families desiring Catholic education for
their children but facing difficulties paying for tuition,
and for donors who can assist these families through taxdeductible contributions to the Tuition Assistance Fund
(the pink envelope in the monthly packet or through Faith
Direct at www.faithdirect.net. The parish code for enrolling in Faith Direct is MO86).

PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR)
CALLING FOR CATECHISTS
ARCHBISHOP MAY SERVICE AWARD
In honor of Archbishop May’s dedicated Christian service,
the Archbishop John L. May Service Awards are conferred
each year, recognizing the outstanding leadership and community service of young people in the St. Louis area. The
27 Catholic high school seniors honored have demonstrated
extraordinary and inspirational volunteer achievement in
their school, community and beyond, making service a way
of life.
Congratulations on the fine achievements in volunteer service that merits this award to recipients from Queen of All
Saints parish:
Marty Bagatti - Chaminade College Preparatory School
Emily Carmack - Nerinx Hall
“Where there is sadness … Joy.
Last year, Pope Francis challenged his fellow priests to be
“shepherds living with the smell of the sheep.” Our Holy
Father called them and us to offer Christ’s grace and peace
to the poor and marginalized.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that He is “the good
shepherd” and promises to “lay down his life for his
sheep” (John 10:11). We, in turn are called to sacrifice for
others.
The Annual Catholic Appeal offers each of us an opportunity to shine light, bring hope and spread joy to our neighbors.
Like Christ, the Good Shepherd, we seek to lay down our
lives for the sheep. A gift to the Appeal is a reflection of
Christ’s love and peace, offering hope and healing to a
world in need.
Please pray for Sylvia Baechle, wife of Charlie Baechle;
memorial Mass for Sylvia will be 11:00 am on Saturday,
May 9, at Queen of All Saints.
Please pray for Marie Falcon, wife of Tony Falcon and
mother of Karen (Mark) Crenshaw; memorial Mass for
Marie will be 11:00 am on Monday, May 11, at Queen of
All Saints.
Please pray for James Lechner. May God welcome them
home and comfort their families in their time of sorrow.
Do you enjoy children? Do you want to help pass on the
Catholic faith? The PSR is in need of catechists for a variety of grades for the 2015-16 school year. Please contact

Oremus – A Guide to Catholic Prayer
8 part study
Presented by
Fr. Mark Toups
Do you find it easy to pray?
For most of us, prayer becomes a source of
frustration as we struggle to calm our minds
and to find even a few minutes to pray. In our busy lives,
prayer is seen as a luxury, when in reality it is at the foundation of a healthy spiritual life.
The good news is that you can overcome your difficulties
with prayer, and it is easier than you might think.
Over the course of eight weeks, the Oremus study program teaches you the essentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life.

Creative Writing Contest Winner
Each spring the Archdiocese Respect Life committee
sponsors a creative writing contest for 8th graders. Students are asked to compose an essay telling how living a
life of chastity protects a person from abortion and leads
to a life of happiness and holiness. Over 1,100 essays
were submitted this year from across the St. Louis Archdiocese! Congratulations to Nikolas Hea who was
the finalist from Queen of All Saints. Nikolas was recognized for his accomplishment at an Awards Ceremony
with Archbishop Carlson on April 22 at the Rigali Center.
Dynamic Catholic, Alive! - The Universal Call to Holiness
The saints are great models of holiness. But we are all
called to live lives of holiness. The universal call to holiness
was central to the Second Vatican council. “Every member
of the faithful is called to holiness and to mission” (Pope St.
John Paul II). Taking on the Cross of Christ and following
him can be a difficult journey. Transform your journey
today, through continuous improvement in small steps.
Can you make 1 degree of spiritual progress this week?

UPDATE
EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR
REMEDIATION COVERAGE AND HVAC SYSTEMS
IN SCHOOL AND LIMBACH HALL
Queen of All Saints Parish is asking all parishioners and
friends of the parish for contributions to cover the cost of
remediating the school and church hall last summer, and
to cover the cost of repairs to or replacement of the
HVAC systems in the school and Limbach Hall.
The
Finance Council is asking each donor to contribute an
extra donation in addition to their ordinary weekly or
monthly offering for these expenses. A special “Mold
Remediation Appeal” envelope is contained in the
monthly envelope packet. Donations may also be made
through Faith Direct (enroll at the parish office or online
at Faith Direct; the QAS parish code is MO86). Last fall,
the parish expended $465,000 for remediation repairs in
the school and the church hall. The Capital Improvement
Committee estimates the expense of the HVAC solution for the school building will be $350,000. And recently a new boiler ($60,000) was installed in Limbach
Hall, an expense unrelated to the mold issue. The parish
Finance Council appr eciates ever y family’s assistance
in providing for these extraordinary expenses which obviously were not known at the time the current budget was
approved last spring.
