Keynote: Joanne de Groot
Joanne is a librarian and teacher and presently works for Edmonton Public Library as the Manager for Learning
and Development. Previously, Joanne was a branch manager for EPL and had the great privilege of opening a
brand new branch in the system, the 13,000 square foot Highlands branch which features a Makerspace and serves
as a hub for the community. She is also an instructor at the University of Alberta where she teaches a variety of
courses in both the Teacher-Librarianship by Distance Learning program and the School of Library and
Information Studies. Her PhD research focused on children's experiences in public library summer reading
programs and combined her interests in libraries, literacy, and children's services. Joanne has been a librarian for
over 16 years working in public, school and regional library systems in Alberta.
