World Geography Unit Plan Lesson 3 Terrain for ISIS I.) Central/Essay Question: What are physical features of the Middle East and how has ISIS present changed the culture of the Middle East? II.) Overview Statement: The purpose of this lesson is for the students is help students see the physical features of the Middle East and explain what physical features are. Physical features were a problem for students to identify when they were taking the pretest. The second half of the class will read an article on ISIS to explain the purpose of ISIS and how group like ISIS raise up. III.) Disciplinary Concepts: Evidence IV.) Objectives: Students will be able to identify physical features in the Middle East. Students will describe and explain what ISIS is and how it can change the culture of the Middle East. Students will be able to explain how a group like ISIS emerge. V.) Standards: WG.2.2 Give examples and analyze ways in which people’s changing views of places and regions reflect cultural changes; understand how people’s views of physical features influence and are influenced by human behavior. D2.Geo.4.9-12. Analyze relationships and interactions within and between human and physical systems to explain reciprocal influences that occur among them. 9-10.LH.2.3: Analyze in detail a series of events described in a text; determine whether earlier events caused later ones or simply preceded them. VI.) Procedures: Beginning (15 minutes) - Ask the students to identify physical features. After identify physical features, I will show the students a physical map of the Middle East and then pictures of the physical features in the Middle East. Middle (5 minutes) - Show how the creation of ISIS happened with Jenga. End (20 minutes) – Read, analyze, and interpret, the article about ISIS. VII.) Assessment: The students will have a half sheet of paper identify the physical features of the Middle East and on the back of the half sheet the students will have to answer the question how the physical feature have affect the culture of the Middle East.
