Reupholster Your Jet Ski Seat
Step 1 — Reupholster Your Jet Ski Seat
You will need several tools to
reupholster your seat properly. The
simple ones are a utility knife (for
cutting and trimming cover), needle
nose pliers (for pulling out staples),
and a small screwdriver (for prying
out staples).
Don't cut yourself and be
careful about what you cut
on the seat cover. Always double
check before you cut.
Step 2
You will also need an AIR
POWERED
UPHOLESTERY STAPLER. We
sell a great kit that includes the
stapler and 3000 staples (enough
to do several seats). The heavy
duty manual staplers can work, but
they are very difficult. I have never
found an electric stapler strong
enough to do seats - you will need
an air powered stapler for best
results.

Step 3
Using your flat head screwdriver, start by pulling out a few staples and pull up a small area
of the old seat.
Using your needle-nose pliers, pull out any staples that remain.
Step 4
Once you've cleared a small area of the old seat of it's staples, you can then use your
needle-nose pliers to grasp the old seat material and in a twisting motion along the bottom
of the seat continue to pull out the old staples.

Step 5
Once the old seat cover and all
staples are removed, you are now
ready to secure the new seat
cover. If the foam of the seat is
damp, set the seat out in the sun
for a day or two until fully dry
before starting.
Step 6
Now that the old cover is off and your seat is dry, it's time to line up the new seat cover on
the seat. Stretch and tack it in several places - once in the very front and very back, and
then a couple places on the side. Put these temporary staples near the edge of the cover
(DO NOT staple into area where the final staples will go).
Once stretched and tacked, place the seat in the sun again for at least an hour to allow the
vinyl to stretch.

Step 7
To get the seat to lay flat, you may need to make one or two relief cuts (in places where
the cover will later be trimmed - think about it and don't cut too much).
Work around the seat and pull and staple, making sure the vinyl is laying flat over the lip.
Step 8
Sharp corners are best done by first pulling tightly and stapling directly in the center of the
corner.
Then work closer and closer until it is properly bunched and tight, again with the top and
the edge being totally flat.

Step 9
The same technique is used for less sharp corners, pulling and stapling tight in the middle,
and then working in from each side to get the corner flat.
Step 10
Once the corners are finished, you will go back and pull the flat sections tight and staple.

Step 11
After all staples are in, carefully trim the cover, allowing at least 1/4" between the staple
and the edge of the cover.
Step 12
Once trimmed, your seat is ready
to go!
