Job Description: Deputy Director
Background
Raising Voices is a non-profit organization based in Kampala, Uganda working to prevent violence against
women and children (www.raisingvoices.org). We seek a dynamic, experienced leader to coordinate all activities
of Raising Voices implemented out of the Uganda office. This is a leadership position requiring an experienced
senior level professional. It is a full-time, permanent position based in Kampala, Uganda.
Role Description
Strategic Management and Leadership
 In collaboration with the Co-Directors, the Deputy Director will be responsible for the strategic
directions of Raising Voices.
 Support management of the organization’s strategic plan, budget and fundraising strategy.
 Supervise and mentor senior staff to ensure quality work and accountability.
 Ensure the operationalization and adherence to all Raising Voices’ policies and procedures.
 Create a supportive environment that fosters personal responsibility and commitment to Raising Voices
goals and values.
Operational Management
 Direct and manage the overall operations of Raising Voices in Uganda.
 Oversee the financial management and be responsible for ensuring quality and integrity of the systems
and policies.
 Oversee management of contracts, procurement, and operations.
 Oversee human resource management at Raising Voices in Uganda.
 Support and oversight to the team in all program planning, budgeting, documentation and monitoring.
 Ensure timely, accurate and quality financial and narrative reporting compliance with donors.
 Ensure efficient and functioning operation systems.
 Foster intra-department linkages, communication and synergies within Raising Voices.
 Implement and foster adherence to the established Raising Voices policies, regulations, guidelines and
procedures and strengthen transparent governance.
 Contribute effectively to the overall strategic visioning, conceptual development, planning and
monitoring of Raising Voices’ work.
 In collaboration with the Co-Directors, appoint senior leadership/management and all other employees.
 Ensure adherence to policies and statutory compliance.
Internal and External Relations
 Facilitate internal processes for Raising Voices staff that build skills and commitment to organizational
values and social justice.
 Demonstrate effective, values driven leadership to all Raising Voices staff.
 Foster a conducive environment that is transparent, accountable and supportive.
 Work collaboratively with the Co-Directors on strategic decisions and leadership of Raising Voices.
 Represent Raising Voices at national processes and events in Uganda and beyond.
 Manage donor relations in collaboration with the Co-Directors.
Reporting


The Deputy Director will lead all Raising Voices’ operations and oversee programming in Uganda. S/he
will report to the Co-Directors of Raising Voices.
The Operations Coordinator, Finance Manager, Administrator, VAW Prevention Coordinator, Learning
Coordinator and VAC Coordinator will report directly to the Deputy Director.
Qualifications


Master’s degree desirable
At least 10 years work experience with at least 5 years in executive leadership role, experience in
Uganda an advantage. Your application will not proceed if this criterion is not met.

Strong analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to see both the big picture as well as micro issues.
Excellent writing skills with the ability to synthesize, understand and communicate complex issues
effectively and in a timely fashion.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Quickbooks and social media
