Raleigh Alumni: Volunteer Selectors Role Overview Raleigh International is looking for a dedicated group of volunteers to help select 18-25 year olds to take part in our International Citizenship Service programme. ICS is a UK government funded development programme that brings together young people from the UK and overseas to fight poverty. Volunteers will take part in fundraising, an overseas placement and an Action at Home project. ICS focuses on creation of active global citizens, through community projects and youth development in some of the world’s poorest communities. If you have been away with Raleigh on an expedition and would like to facilitate others in having a similar opportunity then we want to hear from you! We are looking for Raleigh alumni aged 21 or above, to help us assess potential volunteers on 7 character dimensions. These dimensions are based on the values and attitudes needed to work alongside in-country volunteers, as part of a team to create lasting impact on the communities we work with. We run approximately 50 London based selection events per year for volunteers and team leaders. Each event typically has 20 candidates, and requires a crack team of 5 Selectors (a mix of Head Office staff and Alumni Selectors) to observe and facilitate groups throughout the day. The role will be supported by Raleigh’s Training and Delivery team, and we’ll provide training in all of the skills required This is a flexible role – you can work around your other commitments whilst adding a valuable role and reference to your CV Best of all, you’ll also be able to share your experience of Raleigh to inform potential ICS candidates Main duties and responsibilities Observe candidate behaviours whilst they undertake tasks such as team energisers & activities, scenario discussions, presentation preparation and delivery Facilitate small group discussions Record evidence of observations Interview Candidates Join the end of day review to discuss and evaluate observations and evidence Person specification An Alumni Selector should:Be a Raleigh alumni with enthusiasm, energy, and passion for Raleigh’s charitable objectives, and an interest in development issues Be able to comply with the volunteer’s commitment described below Be reliable and punctual with strong organisational skills Have good self-presentation and self assurance Have the flexibility to adapt quickly to new situations Have the ability to remain objective when observing behaviours and recording evidence Be open to learning with ability to receive and give constructive feedback Be an effective team worker- inclusive and sensitive to group dynamics Previous facilitation experience, and experience in conducting interviews would be advantageous but is not essential Salary: This is an unpaid role but volunteer travel expenses will be covered up to £75 and lunch will be provided for training, observation and selection days. We ask you to commit to a minimum of 6 days, over 4 months which will include one day’s training, observing one selection event and then selecting at a further 4 events.
