The Rapido! National Composition Contest
Announces Take Four!! Cycle
Five Ensembles Accepting Submissions of New, Rapidly Composed Works
March 31, 2015 – The next cycle of the Rapido!® 14-Day National Composition Contest will
begin this spring. Founded in 2009 by the Atlanta Chamber Players and the Antinori Foundation
to promote new works for chamber ensemble, the fourth cycle of the competition begins this year
and includes prizes worth over $20,000! Five acclaimed chamber music ensembles are
participating, representing all corners of the country. Open to all U.S. residents, the Rapido!
competition challenges composers to write a new work in just 14 days!
On April 27, composers in all 50 states will be able to register for the contest online. The first
100 composers who sign up in each region are eligible to compete for the Grand Prize. Each
partner ensemble will host a Regional Semi-Final Concert in the fall of 2015 to select one
Regional Finalist. All 5 Finalists will travel to Atlanta for the National Finals concert on January
17, 2016.
The Grand Prize winner will receive $7,500 to expand his/her short work into a piece for
performance by all five ensembles in 2016-2017 and compose a new orchestral work to be
performed by the Grammy-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In addition, the winner
receives a 2-week residency at the scenic Hambidge Center for Creative Arts in north Georgia.
Regions and participating ensembles include Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings (midwest
region, Detroit, MI), Boston Musica Viva (northeast region, Boston, MA), Atlanta Chamber
Players (southeast region, Atlanta, GA), Voices of Change (southwest region, Dallas, TX), and
Left Coast Chamber Ensemble (west coast region, San Francisco, CA).
Rapido! has achieved remarkable success over its three cycles to date, distributing many
thousands of dollars in prize money and furthering the careers of numerous underrepresented and
deserving classical composers.
