Lessons also increase water safety knowledge. Classes are taught by caring, YMCA instructors. Class participants are divided into skill levels and class size is such that the instructor can provide proper instruction. Lessons are held on Sundays at North Brunswick High School. Beginner through advance levels available. YMCA: national leaders in aquatics programming. Swimming is a life time skill and learning to swim properly does not occur in 6 lessons. Each child progresses differently and repetition of skills is needed to develop true swim strokes. Swim Lesson Requirements by Level Please Read Below to Determine the Proper Placement of Your Swimmer Preschool School Age Pike -3-5 years -beginner and non swimmers -no pre-skills required Polliwog - for the beginner swimmer age 6 to 12 years old Eel (pre-skills) -3-5 years -gets face wet comfortably -can back float without instructor Ray/Starfish (pre-skills) -must paddle stroke 15 feet without bubble -submerge comfortably -floats on front and back without assistance -jumps from side of pool and swims without bubble Teen and Adult Adult Lap/Stroke Swim: Participants will be given a stroke workout that will promote distance, endurance, and technique. Class is for those who already swim. No lessons Teen/Adult Swim Lessons: Class is for those with limited ability who are unable to float or swim or for those who want to improve their strokes and endurance. We will work to reduce fears and develop comfort in the water. Skills taught include front and back floats, arm strokes. Also, breathing and water safety skills. Includes 30 minutes of instruction. Guppy - must swim on own without bubble or floatation device -submerges comfortably -gets face wet comfortably -can paddle stroke 15 feet with face in the water using rudimentary breathing - can back float on own their back for 10 seconds Minnow (45 minute class) -Must be able to swim front crawl with rotary breathing -Must be able to swim in deep water -Can swim back crawl for 25 yards -Able to tread water for 2 minutes -Survival float for 3 minutes Fish (45 minute class) -Swim front & back crawl 50 yards -Elementary back stroke 25 yards -Endurance swim for 150 yards without stopping -Tread water 4 minutes -Survival float 5 minutes Swim School: (1 hour class) Must be able to swim for 1 hour the length of the pool, deep to shallow water. Must have completed fish level skills to participate in this class. A one hour class that focuses on building endurance, perfecting: strokes, starts and turns through drills and swim sets that focus on each part of the competitive stroke. Pre swim team level class. INFORMED CONSENT AND RELEASE FOR FACILITY USE AND HEALTH WAIVER I agree that the YMCA & Crystal Springs shall not be responsible for any personal injuries or losses sustained by me or my family while on premises, or as a result of any YMCA- Crystal Springs sponsored activities. I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless the YMCA & Crystal Springs from any claims or demands arising out of any such injuries or losses. The undersigned hereby releases, waives, discharges and covenants not to sue the YMCA, Crystal Springs, its directors, officers, employees, and agents from any claims for injury, illness, death, loss or damage that may be suffered as a result of participation in these activities. The undersigned assumes all risk for participation in YMCA & Crystal Springs activities. The undersigned acknowledges that a physician should be consulted prior to participating in any physical activity or program. I have read and understand the above policies.
