At the beginning, she announced that the setting for this activity was “In a factory!” We were then divided into 3 groups; we, AADNYA UJAGARE, PRANAV LAKHAN & YASH GANTTI were appointed as Managers. Next, our groups were provided with raw materials- newspapers, a pair scissors and a roll cello tape. At first, we Managers had to make simple paper rings out of the raw materials in just one minute. Initially, we were all confused as to how making paper rings is related to English. To our surprise, ma’am assigned the remaining students to be Security Guards and Laborers. It was almost like a game show of making the most number of paper rings in less than one minute. Soon, ma’am allowed us to increase the number of helping hands. So, we went from making rings all alone to making a chain with our workmates. Everybody was still confused and did not know what this was supposed to demonstrate. Then, as the links continued to grow as a chain, more and more laborers were allowed to help their Managers. Then it came to the point when everyone was helping; even the Security Guards who were watching from the beginning. But, still nobody had the slightest of an idea of how this connected back to English lessons and more importantly to the topic that was written on the blackboard- Activity on: Effective paragraph writing At the end, the groups were asked to join the 3 pieces of chains. The result was, a very long chain; it was close to the perimeter of the two soft boards in the classroom! Then ma’am explained the entire purpose of this activity. Parts of speech are the base for a sentence to be structured well. The various links showed how sentences in a paragraph should get connected, smoothly and consistently and ultimately end in an appropriate paragraph. This explanation proved to be a perfect orientation how to use various ideas in a suitable structure using proper tense, adjectives and literary devices. This activity will come in handy when writing compositions and essays. Our teamwork was a significant point related to forming a paragraph. 4 MYP We also understood why coherence and sentence structure are the components for elegantly writing a paragraph! We clicked photographs with our pretty chain. We enjoyed this really interesting activity.
