Rooftop Quality Assurance is a two-day course for professionals interested in observation to help
assure roof installation is consistent with construction documents. The program covers the diverse
and challenging aspects of roofing as encountered in the field and is ideal for roofing material
manufacturers, general contractors, quality assurance observers, and field inspectors. Course
participants will receive objective and knowledgeable insight to the field of Roof Observation and
role delineation for the observer. Additionally, the course will help prepare participants to provide
an independent measure of quality, assist with project communications, and coordination.
Successful students will also be able to apply roofing technology to the observer function.
Instructors cover fundamentals of quality assurance, component assembly and quality practice
guidelines for a variety of roofing systems, including: Role of the Roof Observer, Construction
Contract Documents, Daily Reports, Low-Slope Roofing Spray-Applied Foam, Steep-Slope Roofing,
Ethics and Codes. Although not a preparatory course for the Registered Roof Observer (RRO) exam,
this course provides useful information for the observer who is preparing for RRO registration.
The program includes course material, breakfast and lunch.

Dave Miller: A member of RCI for 12 years, RRO for past 8 years, currently senior manager of codes and
approvals for IKO industries, 40 years of experience in construction, committee chair for the CRCA
associates, associate member of the CSA bituminous roofing committee, member of NRC task group for
sigders and task group member for ULC s700 insulation committee for polyiso and polyurethane foams.
Also holder of a BA and Cyr designations.
Greg Wallace: Currently a Project Manager for IRC Building Sciences Group in the Technical and Field
Services Department. During his more than fifteen years as a roofing consultant, Greg has gained
experience in every phase of roofing projects, from preliminary assessments, to plans and specifications,
and supervision of work. Greg holds a Bachelor of Engineer Science from the University of Western
Ontario, has been qualified as a roofing expert by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, is an accredited
Green Roof Professional, and past Director of Education for RCI Ontario Chapter.
Darrel Henderson: His experience entails various roofing systems low slope (BUR, modified bitumen,
EPDM, PVC, TPO, PIB) to steep slope systems such as asphalt shingles, cedar, slate and architectural
metal. He gave his first impromptu lecture more than 30 years ago at a Roofing Industry Educational
Institute seminar in Philadelphia at the request of Dick Fricklas, Dick Baxter and Jack West on the
performance of water-based restaurants during his tenure as a Research Chemist at Tremco.
He has mentored the fire rated roofing system module at the University of Toronto for the BSSO designation.
Darrel has lectured for the QAO, Roofing Technology, Basic & Advanced Roofing Consulting Courses at
Humber College and the RCI facilities in Richmond Hill. A registered RRO with RCI since 2008 and a RCI
member since 1997.
