EASTLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL
Message From our Principal
Cougar News, June 2015
Dear Eastland Families,
Our year has come to an end and the 8th grade is moving on
after a successful experience at Eastland Middle School. I
am excited for them and all of the opportunities that the future holds over the next four years as they enter Roseville
High School and are able to take advantage of everything
RHS has to offer while they move towards the important
milestone in life of high school graduation.
The end of the year is always a time of celebration in
school. We had our first annual Academic Award’s Night in
May and it was a huge success. We gave over 130 students
awards for their performance this year in all subject areas. These students were nominated by teacher’s that they
had this year for their outstanding performance. In addition
to the over 200 awards that these students received, we also
named Eighth Grade Students of the Year based upon the
success that they have had over their entire middle school
career. A special congratulations to list 8th grade student of
year. These 7 students were presented with plaques engraved with their accomplishments that will permanently
hang outside of the EMS office on a Wall of Excellence that
has been established for all to see. I would also like to congratulate all of the students who were inducted into National
Junior Honor’s Society in May for their outstanding performance this year as well as all of the honor roll recipients from
the third trimester. A complete list of the NJHS inductees
can be found inside of this newsletter, and third trimester
honor roll students will be listed in the September newsletter
when we return in the fall.
By this time invitations to our free summer math and literacy
camps at Roseville High School have been sent out, and I
urge parents and students to take advantage of this opportunity to catch up with your peers. Most students experience a
drop in achievement over the summer and this is a perfect
time to make up ground on your peers. If you have not received this information, but are interested in these fun-filled
summer learning opportunities for your child, please contact
the Counseling Office.

Letters will also be going out to those students who did not
meet the criteria to be promoted to the next grade. Roseville
Community Schools is offering summer school for credit recovery at Roseville High School and the cost is $75 per session for Roseville residents and $150 for non-residents.
Compared to surrounding districts this is very reasonable.
Attending will help prepare students for success next year
and will still allow students plenty of time off over the summer. If any parent has questions regarding summer school,
please contact the Counseling Office.

Finally, I would like to give a special thank you to Kim
Behnke and Tina Coury-Pietrykowsi, our parent club officers,
and Rose Kuechenmeister, an EMS staff member and longtime active member of the RCS community, for all of the
hard work they did for all of the students at EMS this
year. Their fundraising efforts for student incentives, involvement in after school activities, and commitment to all of
the children at EMS played a significant role in the success
we had this school year. They are advocates for all of our
students and have spent countless hours helping to make
EMS such a special place. Thank you again for all of your
hard work.
Our orientation for the 2015-16 school year is scheduled for
August 28. Please be on the lookout for more information
regarding both the EMS and RHS orientations over the summer. I hope everyone has a safe and happy summer, don’t
forget the sunscreen!

Google and had a chance to meet an executive at Google!! Another session was on Funeral Directing and the girls tried sculpting of a human nose. The last session was directed
by Henry Ford Optim Eyes and learned the education and skills needed to become an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist. Our trip to the MISD was amazing and the girls had an inspiring day!!!!
