THE E-NEWSLETTER FOR RDA SINGAPORE MEMBERS & VOLUNTEERS
Hi there! I am Paint, the cover pony for this edition
of FHM (From the Horse’s Mouth)!
Sorry I couldn’t finish my letter earlier for this
edition of FHM... I only like to do things when the
stars align. You know what I mean?
Our horse riding therapy sessions began this year in
early Feb after our renovation, and this week we've
just started on Term 2 of sessions. I was simply too
busy with the therapy sessions and moving into my
new stall.
Have you visited my new bachelor pad? Not bad,
eh? And I still have my buddy Buckay next to me,
she seems happy to have attention from our
neighbours Harley and Tenzing!
On a sombre note, we bid farewell to our dear
friend, Chester on 27 February. It's really sad that I
no longer see that grumpy old character around.
We go a long way back! When I joined RDA in
December 2001, he was already here! Chester was
in the pioneer batch of horses at RDA Centre in
1997. We'll miss you, old friend!
Still in the topic of the good ole times, do help us
spread the word about our upcoming charity ball
on 6 June 2015 at Universal Studios Singapore! The
theme will be “Back to 1965” in celebration of
Singapore’s golden jubilee. Thank you and hope you
enjoy this issue of FHM!

The biggest event on RDA
Singapore’s calendar has come back
around! For the first time in 10
years, we will be having the RDA
Charity Ball outside RDA Centre.
And to commemorate our nation’s
golden jubilee, we'll go retro all the
way “Back to 1965”!
This year, the charity ball will be
held on 6 June 2015 (Saturday) at
Universal Studios Singapore, Resort
World Sentosa.

With over 20 years at RDA Singapore, Chester has touched the lives of
over 500 of our disabled riders. A teacher to many of us, he holds a
special place in all of us at RDA Singapore.
Thank you Chester!

Dear Everyone at RDA Singapore
Chester was very gentle. I liked to feed him apples and
carrots. I brushed him and I liked him very much. Thank
you for caring for Chester!

Chester had a character (and some would say, temper)
larger than life, and secretly I think he was proud of it.
He liked being groomed, especially while grazing and that
was how I picked up most of my grooming skills.
He was always patient with me, but what makes him the
most special was how gentle he was with kids.
Once, his rider threw a tantrum and was yelling, kicking and
pinching him. Chester looked back initially in annoyance but
when he saw it was a child, he turned back and just stood
quietly as the sidewalkers calmed the rider down.
Chester was a very special horse to me, as I am sure he was
to many people. I am grateful for having had the
opportunity to work alongside him.”

Team Horsebackgobi consists of 2
individuals, Alexis Lee Man Lin (age
19) and John Low Zhong Heng (age
22), from the National University of
Singapore (NUS). They are
residents of Tembusu College, a
residential college in the NUS
campus. They are the youngest
duo to join this unique ultra race!
From 31 May to 6 Jun 2015, both of
them will be racing across over
250km (155 miles) under the hot
and dry desert sun in Xinjiang
Province, China. The area is known
for the colourful culture of its
ethnic minorities and beautiful
green pastures sheltered by the
mighty
Tianshan
Mountains.
Participants are required to cover
approximately the distance of a
marathon each day, except for the
“Long March” in Stage 5 of about
two marathon lengths. To find out
