Registered summer session students automatically pay the SRC fee through their paid summer session fees. The fees listed
below may be paid at the SRC North or South front counter.

General Class Information
These non-credit courses are designed to teach skills that an individual can use during his or her leisure time. The classes
are taught by qualified instructors who have special skills they wish to share. Course fees cover instructor's salary and most
supplies. If you are interested in teaching a class or have any ideas about new classes, we encourage you to drop in and
see us or contact [email protected].
Class Registration: You may register for classes at the SRC North and South front counter. We accept Visa, Master Card
and Discover cards.
Class structure: All classes have a minimum and maximum number of participants required, depending on the type of
class. Enrollment is based on payment of fees and is on a first-come basis. Class will be closed after the maximum has been
reached and cancelled 48hrs. before the 1st class session if the minimum is not met. For information on specific classes,
please contact us at (951) 827-5731.
Dress code: Workout attire is required, denim or jeans are not allowed.
Fees: All fees are paid at the Student Recreation Center. Each class has a separate fee structure depending on the nature
and cost of the class.
Refund: No refunds on Activity Classes unless the class is cancelled by the Recreation department.
Parking: Parking for classes is available in any guest lot (Lot 25, 24, 30, 22). You may purchase 90 minute parking permits
at the parking pass dispenser in Lot 25. Parking lot guest passes may also be purchased at the Parking Kiosk at the UCR
entrance off of University Ave., and on Canyon Crest Drive off of Martin Luther King Blvd.

Private and Semi-Private Lessons
Private lessons provide participants with the opportunity to learn at his/her own pace and can be adapted for all abilities.
Set the time to meet your schedule and our instructor will work to meet your swimming goals. Lessons are available to UCR
students and SRC members only.

Children’s Swim Lessons
Five lessons - 30 minutes, once a week for five (5) weeks. These lessons are for children of all abilities. All swimming lessons
are taught utilizing the American Red Cross guidelines and teaching techniques. Parent must bring a birth certificate to
register their child. Lesson prerequisites can be found online or by contacting us at [email protected].

Lap Swim and Stay Fit Class
Participants will receive stroke improvement drills and instruction on the four swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke,
breaststroke, and butterfly. Our goals are comfort with each stroke as well as improved endurance. Participants may attend

We are offering a Faculty/Staff Summer Lunch Fitness Class at the SRC from 11AM-1PM, Monday through Friday
starting June 22nd, 2015 through September 22, 2015.

Aikido is an effective defense that builds strength, endurance, and substantial self-defense skills. At Riverside Aikido, great
emphasis is placed on clean, precise technique, weapons skills (Jo and Bokken) and fluid Ukemi (the art of the fall or getting
out of the way). Riverside Aikido is a proud affiliate of the United States Aikido Federation, West Region.

Judo, Beginning
This is an introductory course in Kodokan Judo. Students will learn several basic throws, pins, arm bars, chokes, and how to
fall properly to protect themselves from injury. Free practice (Randori) will include standing techniques and mat work. Judo
etiquette is emphasized and respectful behavior is required during the class. Students may test for Yellow Belt at the end of
the quarter if they have met all technical and attendance requirements.

Judo, Advanced **Approval Required**
This is intermediate and advanced training in Kodokan Judo. Students must have prior instructor approval before being accepted
into this class. Judo Gis are required. This class focuses on Tachi Waza (standing techniques) and Ne Waza (ground techniques).
Kata will also be taught and practiced on a selection basis. Competition is recommended but not required as it is a crucial method
for testing and improving judo skills. All advanced students are asked to become members of USJA to help support the Riverside
Judo Dojo’s certification. USJA membership is not mandatory if students choose not to compete.

Tai Chi Yang Style, Beginning & Continuation (No Class 9/7 & 9/14)
This is a multilevel class with an introduction to the Old form of Yang Style Symmetrical 28 Form for beginners and long
form for continuing students. Taught in order: ch’i kung (qigong), Long form, pushing hands, San shou application form, t’ai
chi fast form, t’ai chi sword, broadsword and stick. The beginning form is low intensity and can be done by anyone who can
walk. Harvey Kurland is officially certified by the Chinese Tai Chi Chuan Association.

This class teaches the symmetrical Old Form of Yang style system including Standing Meditation, O’mei Ch’i Kung (Emmei
qigong) Symmetrical Long Form, Pushing Hands, San Shou Application Form, Sword and Walking stick. Hsing-I ch’uan
(Xing Yi quan) and pa-kua chang (baguazhang) is also taught. Kurland is 6th generation Yang style and is certified as Chief
Instructor by the CTCCA and has over 35 years of experience. Students must complete the first form in this series to take
this class.
