REES goes Around the World

elcome back, REES Eagles! I hope you all enjoyed a
relaxing and fun-filled break. Spring has finally sprung,
and REES PTA is busy planning some of our most-loved annual
events.
I hope you will find time to join us for our PTA meeting April
23 featuring many nations and cultures at our Rivers Edge Around the World
celebration. There will be food to taste, passports to be stamped and some
interesting artifacts to be seen from all over the world, as well as international
games to play and student performances to watch. We will also honor this
year’s Volunteer of the Year nominees and recipient as well as announce next
year’s REES PTA officers to be elected in May. Please plan to join us at 6:30
p.m. on Thursday, April 23.
Other upcoming events this spring include the following:

REES Annual Spring Carnival
Linda Carey and the Spring Carnival Committee are hard
at work planning this year’s event on May 1 from 5-7:30
p.m., which will feature Jonathan Austin the Juggler and
Nutzy the Flying Squirrel as well as Kona Ice and many
delicious food trucks to make it convenient for families to
purchase dinner at the carnival. Numerous volunteers are always needed to
make the carnival a success, so please sign up to help out that night.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teri Curry and the TAW Committee are also busy planning special treats
and activities for our beloved REES teachers May 4-8. Please be on the lookout for more information from Room Parents on how you and your children
can participate in showing our appreciation to the amazing staff at Rivers

REES Spirit Day at Sweet Frog
Come cool off after REES Field Day at
SweetFrog on Friday, May 8 and enjoy
a refreshing frozen yogurt with as many
toppings as you like. Proceeds from the
sales will go back to REES.
REES Reading Night
On Thursday, May 14 at 6:45 p.m., please join our outstanding
Librarian, Kathleen Roberts, and many of our REES teachers
and staff in celebrating reading in our school with fun activities,
games and treats. REES PTA will also hold our 2015-16 Officer
Elections and Installation prior to the start of this event at our General Membership Meeting.
Once again, I look forward to seeing you and your families at the upcoming
REES PTA events and as always, thank you for your continued support of the
REES PTA. I know this is a very busy time for us all with spring sports, recitals and extracurricular activities, but I hope you will be able to take some time
out to spend with your children at one or more of these REES events as we
wind down another successful school year at Rivers Edge Elementary School.

Let’s globe-trot without leaving home

Citizens of the world, join us on April 23 for the annual Rivers Edge Around the World night, sponsored by
the Rivers Edge PTA.
It doesn’t matter if you were born in Albania or
Alabama, if you come from Kenya or Kentucky, if your
ancestors are from South Carolina, South Africa or
South America, if you are from Planet Earth we are inviting you to celebrate the diverse cultures and countries
represented by the Rivers Edge families.
Let’s share a night of customs, traditions, food, arts,
crafts, music, dance and sports, and enjoy a magical
journey around the world right here at our school,
without airport security lines or jetlag (passports will be
provided)!

have a world-class great time!

Henrico community forum to be held April 30
Henrico PTA
The Henrico Too Smart 2 Start Coalition will host its 3rd annual “It Takes a
Village” community forum on Thursday, April 30.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public. The location is the
Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave., Henrico, VA 23223.
The coalition has been hosting focus groups across the county to gather input
from community stakeholders in regards to their perceptions of substance abuse in
Henrico County.
Thank you to all groups who participated and to all coalition members who
assisted with facilitating and recording the information.
The coalition meets the 3rd Friday of each month at 12 noon at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. Please come by and find out more about the coalition. Visit
