presents Dr. Danielle Martin Vice President of Medical Affairs & Health System Solutions at Women’s College Hospital, UofT Associate Professor, and Family Physician The Power of Bifocal Vision: How Practitioners and Policymakers Can Change the World Health professionals strive as advocates and agents to look beyond our individual patients and address system-level determinants of health. But the best way to bridge between the level of the individual and the level of the system in our daily work remains less clear, whether we act as front-line providers or system-level policymakers. In order to improve health we must construct the perfect bifocal lens, one that allows us to see clearly what is needed both up close and at great distances. How can “social justice” be brought into the daily practice of health care providers, and how can policy makers and system leaders fully engage with the citizens they seek to help? In this talk Dr. Danielle Martin will explore the power of bifocal vision, why it is so rare, and how we might work together to achieve it. The talk will be particularly relevant to trainees and practitioners in the health professions as well as those in public policy and the business world who want to make the world a better place.
