Soul Train by Neil Woodard
OK….so I am an Old School OG as they say in the
hood. Back in the day on Saturday mornings we
watched cartoons and Soul Train. This was the
1970’s, so there I was with my busted afro and
skinny bell bottom jeans and platform shoes dancing
to the funky sounds that Soul Train produced every
Saturday shaking my fro and shaking a leg.
Then I went to college and it seemed like everyone
was doing the Soul Train dances. We had the Soul
Train lines, some of us would roll around the floor,
others would jump up and down as though riding a
horse, one guy went swimming on the floor and still
others were just cool…barely moving as they
advanced up the Soul Train line. As for me, my
arms and legs were flailing all over, quivering and
quaking, jumping, hopping and shaking trying to do
what I saw the others on TV do…
we doing here? This music was moving and
thumping and I was having a hard time controlling
my urge to get up and boogey. Meanwhile, my feet
are moving under the table with a life all their own.
Then I started sweating. Once my head started to
bop with the beat of the music I got up, excused
myself and went for more food.
It was torture for me not to dance. My hands were
shaking and I was trembling while walking through
the dance floor to get to the food. I was thinking…if I
can just shake a leg one time…
Ultimately the celebration was over and we all went
home. I was exhausted from NOT dancing. So I
called another friend of mine, a Bishop and
explained what had happened. He said that it was a
good thing that I did not dance and that sometimes
when we’re in certain positions we have to maintain
a certain mode of behavior. While we did not review
scriptures, I can see a host of scriptures in my
mind…

“A Taste of Jazz” by Neil Woodard
They say that imitation is the best form of flattery…I
was a true Soul Train dancer (well I thought so
anyhow) and so I was happy. Now let’s shoot up to
the summer of 2014, almost 40 years into the future,
that being the present tense. In my mind I am still
that kid from college and I am at a celebration with
Church people, an entire congregation…and now I
am an Elder in the Church. The music comes on
and no one…absolutely No One from the
congregation of the Church gets up to dance. It was
good music too, my feet began to move and stomp
under the table. Now there were many other people
in the boat’s dance area and they are dancing up a
storm.
Visit cdbaby.com and listen to some clips. “A Taste
of Jazz” is a work of art that includes a mixture of
inspirational jazz, blues, and gospel sounds.

So before I get up and embarrass myself and subject
myself to a possible rebuke from the Pastor, I asked
a member of the congregation; do you guys dance?
She informed me that the Pastor frowns upon
secular dance. My quiet thought was; well what are

The Names of God by Esther Robinson (continued)
(continued)
First, Jesus turned water into wine at
a wedding celebration
and I am sure they all
had fun although, I don’t
know whether Jesus
himself danced or not.
There are a host of other
scriptures I can see
where we do have
liberty… freedom to be who we are (in
decency and order) but for me the
biggest one is found in 1Corintians 8th
Chapter. To paraphrase; while we
have the liberty to engage in certain
(clean) activities, and to eat certain
foods at questionable places, we don’t
if we are going to offend others
(believers), who consider such
behavior offensive. So now Elder
Woodard does the Funky Four
Corners at home in the privacy of his
bedroom while listening to the Ohio
Players… Ok, so I don’t really go to
that extreme but I hope you get the
point.
We have a responsibility to manifest
behavior that represents the Grace of
God. Yes we do have liberty and
freedom to have fun in decency and
order, but if our behavior greatly
offends others, then we need to curb
it. People have a way of perceiving
God that is different from our way of
perceiving God and that is alright. We
were put here to grow and develop in
our relationship with God, with our
own selves and with others around us.
It doesn’t mean that we stop being
who we are; it means that we become
MORE of who we are, through Jesus.

Cornwell wrote, “Another powerful name of God is the
Schemhamphoras, or the Divided Name, which is hidden in the
Book of Exodus, chapter 14, verses 19, 20, and 21. Each verse is
composed of seventy-two letters (in the original Hebrew). If one
writes these three verses' one above the other, the first from
right to left, the second from left to right, and the third from right
to left, one would get seventy-two columns of three-letter names
of God. The seventy-two names are divided into four columns of
eighteen names each. Each of the four columns falls under the
aegis of one of the letters of the Tetragrammaton.
The Tetragrammaton appears to have its origin in the phrase found
in Exodus 3:14 "I am that I am." I can assure you not many people
would set through the hours of Biblical study it would take to review
the actual names of God in the Scriptures.”

How the Mode of Baptism Was Changed by Pastor Van D. Wilson III
(Reformatted for use in the Remnant Newsletter)
The Remnant Church would like to thank Pastor Van D. Wilson III for sharing his research on how the mode
of baptism was changed through history. Note the content of his research was not changed though his original
document was reformatted for use in this newsletter (Neil Woodard, Chief Editor).
Documented Truth:
Reference:
The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ
to the words Father, Son, and Holy Ghost by the Catholic Church in
the second century.
Everywhere in the oldest sources it states that baptism took place in
the name of Jesus Christ.
The early church always baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus until
development of Trinity doctrine in the 2nd century.
Here the Catholics acknowledged that baptism was changed by the
Catholic Church.
Christian baptism was administered using the words “In the name of
Jesus”.
The use of a Trinitarian formula of any sort was not suggested in
early Church history.
Baptism was always in the name of Lord Jesus until the time of
Justin Martyr when Triune formula was used.
Justin Martyr was one of the early Fathers of the Roman Catholic
Church.
NAME was an ancient synonym for “person”. Payment was always
made in the name of some person referring ownership. Therefore
one being baptized in Jesus Name became his personal property.
“Ye are Christ’s.”
The term “Trinity” was originated by Tertullian, a Roman Catholic
Church Father.
The formula used was ‘in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ’ or some
synonymous phrase; there is no evidence for the use of the trine
name… The earliest form, represented in the Acts, was simple
immersion…. in water, the use of the name of the Lord, and the
laying on of hands. To these were added at various times and places
which cannot be safely identified, (a) the trine name (Justin)….
The evidence… suggests that baptism in early Christianity was
administered, not in the threefold name, nut ‘in the name of the Lord
Jesus’.
At first baptism was administered in the name of Jesus, but gradually
in the name of the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
BRITANNICA ENCYCLOPEDIA
11TH edition, Vol 3, Pg 365-366
[One explanation is that] the original form of words was ‘into the
name of Jesus Christ’. Baptism into the name of the Trinity was a
later development.
The Trinitarian baptismal formula … was displacing the older
baptism in the name of Christ.
The New Testament knows only baptism in the name of Jesus …,
which still occurs even in the second and third centuries.

Documented Truth (continued):
Reference (continued):
Persons were baptized at first ‘in the name of Jesus Christ’ … or ‘in
the name of the Lord Jesus.’… Afterwards, with the development of
the doctrine of the Trinity, they were baptized ‘in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
It is natural to conclude that baptism was administered in the earliest
times ‘in the name of Jesus Christ,’ or in that ‘of the Lord Jesus.’ This
view is confirmed by the fact that the earliest forms of the baptismal
confession appear to have been single – not triple, as was the later
creed.
The Trinitarian formula and trine immersion were not uniformly used
from the beginning… Baptism into the name of the Lord [was] the
normal formula of the new Testament. In the 3rd century baptism in
the name of Christ was still so wide spread that Pope Stephen, in
opposition to Cyprian of Carthage, declared it to be valid. The
evidence is overwhelming. This is obviously the way the apostles
baptized in the first Church. Don't you think if you are going to be in
Christ's Church, YOU should be baptized in the NAME of Jesus?
"And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that
endureth to the end shall be saved." (Matthew 10:22 KJV) "Then
shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye
shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake." (Matthew 24:9
KJV) "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he
that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." (Mark
13:13 KJV) "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake."
(Luke 21:17 KJV) How many more scriptures will it take to see it?

The Fig Tree by Joe Mitchell
A fig is a small, sweet, pear-shape fruit that grows
on a tree. Fig trees yield fruit in both June and
August. Harvest could be at different times
depending on the area. Biblical history tells us the
fig tree is symbolic of Israel (Jer 24:1-10).
Jesus approached a fig tree producing leaves but
bore no fruit. Being disappointed he spoke against
it. It withered. The fig tree illustrates the results of
the Jews as a people rejecting Christ as the
Messiah (Matt 21:18-20; Mark 11:12-14; 20-24).

other things have a way of not being as important as
we thought they were to us. Like the fig tree, it/we
should be fruitful; feeding people but it was not.
Christ decided then that was enough and did what he
did. Jesus told Peter (applies to leaders) to feed my
Sheep. Let’s not be like the fig tree having leaves but
no fruit; do we want Jesus to ask us where our fruit
is? What is your purpose in life?

Fast forward to today….
All of us strive to follow Christ, as we learn more
about him; we can see where we were and where
we are now.
We don’t want to be like the children of Israel where
we have the knowledge but not using spiritual
guidance to express the truth. Walking in love and
trusting God completely and rightly dividing the
word of truth is the way. Do we depend on man
more than God? He had given us a way out of all
of our troubles and problems by believing in him
unconditionally. When we seek him first, the
