Paracetamol BP + DL-Methionine BP
Description:
Paracetamol 500mg & Methionine 100mg Tablet is a fast acting and safe
analgesic with marked antipyretic property.
Pharmacology:
Paracetamol produces analgesic action by elevation of the pain threshold
and antipyresis through action on the hypothalamic heat regulating center.
Paracetamol is rapidly and completely absorbed from the GIT following
oral administration. The mean half-life of absorption from the upper small
intestine is only 7 minutes. The drug is extensively metabolized in the liver
and it has a plasma half life of 1.5 to 3.0 hours. Paracetamol is not bound
to plasma proteins to any extent.
DL-Methionine is used to prevent liver damage in acetaminophen
poisoning. It is also used for increasing the acidity of urine, treating liver
disorders, and improving wound healing.
Indications:
All conditions requiring relief from pain and fever such as neuritis,
neuralgia, headache, earache, toothache, pain due to rheumatic disorder,
cold, influenza, dysmenorrheal pain, post-vaccination pain and fever of
children etc.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults: Take one or two, every four hours.
Maximum dose: Do not take more than 2 tablets at any one time. Do not
take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated for liver diseased patients.
Precautions:
Severe renal or liver impairment, pregnancy and lactation.
Use in Children:
Not recommended for children under 12 years old.
Side Effects:
Side effects are significantly mild, though hematological reactions have
been reported. Pancreatitis, skin rashes, and other allergic reactions
occur occasionally.
