AxiSet™ Check-Up AxiSet™ Check-Up RAPID measurement of machine performance ACCURATE detection and reporting of pivot point errors OPTIMISED machine set-up and increased capability AUTOMATED checking and benchmarking AxiSet™ Check-Up Renishaw provides a range of workpiece measurement and inspection software packages which offer solutions across all layers of the Productive Process Pyramid™, from on-machine probe setting and tool setting, through to adaptive machining and reporting. Postprocess monitoring In-process control Process setting Renishaw’s AxiSet Check-Up, a ‘process foundation’ tool, is a powerful software package which provides machine tool users with a fast and accurate health check of rotary axis pivot points. Process foundation Productive Process Pyramid™ Process foundation Optimisation and monitoring of machine tool performance. • Eliminate machine errors • Reduce unplanned stoppages • Produce consistently good parts • Ensure process stability and reliability • Create a foundation for automation Benefits • Elimination of machine errors ensures less downtime, more consistent output and reliable delivery performance. • Machine operators are focused on proactive error prevention rather than reactive problem solving • Less part-to-part variation increases capability and reduces scrap, rework and concessions • Increased cost-effectiveness of capital and consumables • Process variation is tackled at source • Reduced scrap and increased profits AxiSet Check-Up used in conjunction with Renishaw’s RMP600 and OMP400 probes. What is AxiSet™ Check-Up? AxiSet Check-Up is a cost-effective solution for checking and improving rotary axis performance. In just a few minutes, users of multi-axis machining centres and multi-tasking (mill-turn) machines can identify poor machine alignment, geometry and pivot point errors that can cause extended process setting times and non-conforming parts. Where possible, AxiSet Check-Up automatically corrects on-machine pivot point parameters. By providing machine users with a fast and accurate health check of rotary axis pivot points, AxiSet Check-Up assists in building the process foundation by maximising the stability of the environment and machine. When used alongside Renishaw’s QC20-W ballbar system and laser interferometers, AxiSet Check-Up gives an unparalleled machine diagnosis solution. Mount sphere Print function The History comparisons process Option to auto correct machine Compare against tolerances Run probing macro Where desired, transfer data Analyse machine performance How it works Using the macro software supplied, AxiSet Check-Up takes reference measurements around a dedicated single-sphere calibration artefact and can automatically correct rotational centres by updating on-machine pivot point parameters. The results from the AxiSet Check-Up test are then output to a PC, where a supplied Microsoft Excel spreadsheet presents an easily understood visual analysis of the data, including: a representation of performance which highlights tracking and centring errors; a simple ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ test against the user’s pre-defined tolerances; and a historical analysis of rotary axis performance. Performance analysis is reported graphically via Microsoft Excel. Circular plot Angular plot History plot Features and functionality • Discrete reporting of pivot point and lathe centre-line error along linear axes (as commonly defined in CNCs) • Can make automatic in-cycle corrections to on-machine pivot-point parameters • Displays mechanical form error of rotary axes. • Recommends correction values for machine optimisation • Has incremental and absolute reporting modes • H as user selectable calculation methods to establish pivot points • Can import and back-up multiple data sets automatically • R eliably checks and tracks machine performance trends over time • Is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP or later and Office 2003 or later. Machine compatibility • Machines with indexers • 3+1 and 3+2 machines • Full 5-axis machining centres • Multi-tasking machines • Other machines with rotary axes, for example, horizontal machining centres System components Software Macros – written for a range of CNC machine tool controls, Renishaw’s machine-specific AxiSet Check-Up probing macros are available for common machine configurations, including 5-axis machining centres and multi-tasking machines. Running these macros drives the machine through the positions necessary to collect measurement data PC software – running in Microsoft Excel, the software analyses the probe data and displays the results in a variety of graphical formats. Hardware Single calibration sphere – conveniently mounted on a magnetic base, the calibration sphere is used as a reference feature for measurements. This simple-to-use artefact ensures that set-up time is kept to a minimum and, in most cases, does not require fixtures or parts to be removed. Strain gauge probe – for optimum accuracy, Renishaw recommends the use of strain gauge probes. These include the latest generation of RENGAGE™ probes, as well as the widely used MP700 model. Calibrated test bar – ensures that AxiSet Check-Up measurements are traceable and comparable to the settings made by machine tool builders. Probing pays ... To maximise productivity and profits, your machine tools should be cutting more metal, more reliably and more accurately than your competitors. Automated checking and benchmarking of multi-axis machine performance using Renishaw’s AxiSet Check-Up can be up to 15 times quicker than manual methods, which means immediate and significant cost savings. ... the Renishaw way Renishaw, an established world leader in metrology solutions, invented the touch-trigger probe in the 1970s. Decades of customer focus and investment in development, coupled with our own manufacturing experience, enables us to provide innovative and exceptional products that are unmatched for technical excellence and performance. Scrap and rework reduce productivity and profits. AxiSet Check-Up helps ensure accurate setting-up of multi-axis and multi-tasking machines, which means reduced waste and increased profits. Part set-up Manual st Co Automated Time It is widely accepted that the higher the degree of human involvement in the manufacturing process, the higher the risk of error. Automated in-process measurement using Renishaw probes can help eliminate the risk. Investment in a Renishaw probe system can facilitate predictive and active measures for enhanced management of your production and increase your profits. AxiSet Check-Up key features • Measure and report critical errors quickly • R eliable checking and tracking of machine performance trends over time • Compatible with a wide range of multi-axis machines Customer comment I firmly believe in the principle of building quality in, not inspecting to achieve it. Renishaw probing is central to that manufacturing philosophy and throughout our use of CNC machines we have had a close relationship with Renishaw – the flexibility and willingness to assist has always been outstanding.
