Welcome Brownie Campers Welcome to the third annual Badgerland Camporee! We are so excited that you have decided to join together with other Girl Scouts for this awesome event. The weekend will provide Girl Scouts of all ages the opportunity to experience “traditional” Girl Scout activities and meet sister Girl Scouts from all over Badgerland. There is a lot of information in this booklet: the Camporee schedule for Brownies, driving directions, packing list, meal information, and more. If you have questions, please email [email protected]. Activity Information Trails Camporee activities are designed in “trails.” Brownies will rotate in set groups through a trail especially designed for their Camporee experience. Activities offered are similar to what girls may experience at summer camp. Troops & Buddies Girl Scouts of every age MUST travel with at least one buddy anywhere they go. Brownies should travel with one girl buddy and an adult. No girl from a troop can attend an activity on her own; she must have at least one other girl and an adult with her. An Individual Girl Scout attending attends activities with her related/accompanying adult. All Girl Scouts LOVE when their leaders and other adults participate in games, songs, and other activities please jump on in! Arrival & Check-In Arrival Recommended arrival is 10-10:30 am. The Information Survey that will be sent to you by April 1, will allow you to inform the staff if you will be arriving on-time or expect a later arrival. If you are delayed on the day of the event call Camp Ehawee directly at 608.857.3207. When you arrive at camp, park in the designated lot or as directed by event staff. Driving to the sleeping units is not permitted. Please pack accordingly. Parents of summer campers recommend bringing a wagon or sled to get belongings to the sleeping units. You will also see lots of girls helping each other out. Check-In All campers will be checked in at the registration table at Hope Lodge. Send one adult to check-in your entire troop. The girls will make a nametag for themselves using supplied materials in Hope Lodge. Girls will wear this the entire weekend Following check-in, groups will be directed to their sleeping quarters to unpack and settle in. Due to logistics, changes in sleeping arrangements cannot be made on-site at the Camporee. f you have a concern please address it with Camporee staff and we will do our best to accommodate the needs of your group. Cell Phones and Emergency Contacts Cell Phones/Tech Gadgets Camp Ehawee is an outdoor setting and a great place to unplug and focus on the girls. We ask that cell phones and other technology be left in your vehicle. If you are the troop contact/leader and require a phone with you, please keep it in your pocket and excuse yourself from the group if needing to text or take a call. This will prevent the girls from being distracted from their activities. Emergency Contact Information Cellular service is spotty at camp and wifi is not available. The best way for a parent to reach a troop leader in the event of an emergency while at camp is by calling 608.857.3207. If someone does not answer, the parent can leave a message. Messages are checked regularly throughout the day. Sleeping Units Available Options Before selecting housing for the Camporee, we encourage you to visit the Camp Ehawee property page at www.gsbadgerland.org.There are two housing options: 1) Inside housing encompasses the bunkrooms in Nakomis, Bertha and the cabins. 2) Outside housing includes platform tents and the yurt. Selection & Assignment Troops select their chosen housing type and number of adult and girl participants at the time of registration. To maximize sleeping spaces, groups may be mixed according to their participation numbers. (ALL adults staying overnight must be councilapproved with an approved background check.) We will not separate a single individual or adult (unless male overnight participant) from their group. Troops cannot add to their attending numbers or change their sleeping accommodation choice after April 1 or program sell-out date, whichever comes first. Living Together Externally amplified sounds are not allowed (MP3 players/cell phones with external speakers) in sleeping areas except for alarm clocks. A time for troops to be in their sleeping area is designated by the organizers. Troop members should not venture out from that area without an adult after that time. All troops should utilize the buddy system for girls going to the bathroom out of tents or cabins overnight. “Lights Out” time is up to the Troop Leader. Anyone in a shared bunkroom space should confer with the other groups. Male Chaperones/Leaders Notify us in the Information Survey if male troop leaders or chaperones are attending Camporee with your troop and staying overnight. This will help us to prepare sleeping spaces accordingly. Men staying on-site are asked to use the men’s restroom in either the shower house or Hope Lodge for all personal needs. This will ensure their privacy during the event. Depending upon your group’s sleeping arrangements, they may be asked to sleep in a pitched tent or separate room. SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallit Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) SWAPS are a Girl Scout tradition. When Girl Scouts get together we trade SWAPS when meeting a new Girl Scout friend. There are a few pictures of SWAPS in this booklet and you can also find resources and ideas just by searching online. Have fun gathering them from other troops and make some of your own SWAPS to trade at the Camporee. We will have a special SWAPS time one evening, but any mealtime or activity is a good time to trade. Bring a fun hat, sash, bag, or other item to attach your SWAPS to. Remember they are pinned! Meals and Cookout Options Meals All meals except Saturday dinner are served in the Dining Hall of Hope Lodge. Meals in the Dining Hall are served family-style at round tables. Junior-Ambassador Girl Scouts and adults will be acting as “hoppers” to help with set up and serving of the meals. Girls and adults will need to mix tables and meet girls and adults from other troops as there are only 89 seats at a table and food is served to each table based on that count. There is a set menu for each meal offering a balanced meal with a vegetarian option. On the Information Survey that will be sent out following registration, groups will be asked to account for the number of vegetarians and any food allergies or other special food needs to help us prepare appropriate meal options. Please do not leave the meal until dismissed by the staff. Saturday Pack-out The pack-out on Saturday night will allow all groups the opportunity to cook over a campfire. Campfires will be shared and positioned all around Camp Ehawee. Your campfire location may not be at your housing site although we will do our best to have you at that location. We will enjoy a menu of hot dogs, fresh veggies, fruit and juice. Dessert will be s’mores made with Thanks-a-Lot Girl Scout cookies. Girls will need to supply a mess kit (plate, cup, bowl, utensils) and dunk bag (lingerie bag with string). You can also Come Prepared for this Tradition! A Scout’s Own is a Girl Scout and Camp bring your own roasting fork(s) for Ehawee tradition. It is a ceremony that girls s’mores if you choose. can personalize based on a theme. This year’s theme is Friendship. Troops should come prepared with a short skit, song, poem or other creative way to interpret the theme. Don’t worry if you don’t have time to prepare in advance, there will be some time at camp to prepare too!
