Dozens Killed in Two ISIS
Suicide Bombings North of
Aleppo
Spokesperson for the Syrian
Coalition Salem al-Meslet
condemned the two suicide
bombings carried out by ISIS
elements in the towns of Marea
and Hur Kilis north of Aleppo.
The attacks targeted compounds
belonging to al-Shamia Front of
the Free Syrian Army in order to
kill their commanders. Several
commanders were killed including
Yahya Zakarya Hafez, Hafez alSaleh, Luay Salim Hafez, Ali Husein,
Hasan Ikrima and Ali Husein alNaef, while dozens of people were
injuried.
The first suicide bombing targeted
al-Shamia Front base in the town
of Marea, 40 km to the north of
Aleppo, killing at least thirteen
people and injuring dozens more.
The second one targeted another
base for al-Shamia Front and
occurred shortly after the first
one in the town of Hur Kilis,
50km to the north of Aleppo.
Thirty people were killed,
including prominent commanders
in the Front, and many more were
injured.
It is worth mentioning that ISIS
has been attempting for a while
to storm both of the towns under
al-Shamia Front’s control. The
Front was formed late last year
and it includes several of the
biggest military factions in Aleppo
such as al-Mujahideen Army, Nour
Eddine Zinki Movement, Istaqem
Kama Umert Group, al-Asala and
al-Tanmiyah Front, in addition to
several others.
“ISIS exploited the rebels’
concentration on fighting proregime forces who have been
trying desperately to encircle
Aleppo,” Meslet said.
“Countering ISIS extremism
needs unifying our efforts and
upholding the principles of the
Syrian Revolution, in parallel
with a significant shift in the
international community’s
position on the situation in Syria.”
“ISIS and the Assad regime’s
continued barbarity lays great
moral responsibilities on the
international community to
provide meaningful support for
the Syrian people, not only in
order to achieve their legitimate
aspirations and protect civilians;
but to ward off more risks and
possibilities that threaten the
region and the whole world.”
Meslet extends condolences to
the families of the victims of
the terrorist attacks, reaffirming
confidence in the revolution’s
forces that adhere to the
principles of the revolution
and that respect international
conventions and laws.
