May 15, 2015 Richard Bulpitt Elementary School 20965 77A Street Langley BC V2Y 2E6 Ph 6048885393 Email: [email protected] Twitter: @RichardBulpittS Website:h ttp://richardbulpittelementaryschool.weebly.com/ Principal Mrs. Lucy Lenko Vice Principal Ms. Susan Macdonald Administrative Assistant Ms. Cheryl Davies Dear Parents and Guardians: This week, many parents from our school attended the community consultation meetings held at Lynn Fripps on Monday afternoon and evening. The school district continues to consult with parents about possible solutions for the overcrowding of schools on the Willoughby slope. Please visit the Richard Bulpitt website where the latest powerpoint has been uploaded. It explains the possible options that could happen in 2016 and in later years. Yorkson Creek Middle School and Richard Bulpitt Elementary school are the two fastest growing schools in the Langley School district. It is predicted that by September 2016, our school will be at capacity. Yorkson Middle school will be at capacity next year. The community meetings are important opportunities for parents to be involved and to let the school district know their preferences for options. At school, it has been a busy time. The learning and teaching continues as we grow nearer to the end of the school year. Preparations are in full swing for the zone track meet for grades 4 and 5, the Parent Appreciation Tea (more details in this newsletter) the grade 5 swim program, Welcome to Kindergarten, Sport’s day, Saleema Noon presentations and end of year field trips. Please take the time to read this newsletter as more information will be given in detail. Have a wonderful Victoria Day weekend with your family and friends. Sincerely, Mrs. L. Lenko Playground Use With the nicer weather, the children are spending more time outside. Part of the curriculum includes half an hour of DPA (daily physical activity) for every child in the school. Not only are the students using the playground at recess and lunch, but also at other times of the day. We do not have the use of the fields yet so our playground space is very small for over 400 students. Although we are very good at sharing, it is concerning when there are little people on the playground who are not yet attending school. Please be aware that the school grounds are for the use of the students until school is finished. This is for the safety of all the children. It is for the littlest ones who will get bumped by our bigger children as well as for the children who attend our school. Our staff needs to know who the unknown adults are on the playground so that we can keep all of our students safe. Thankyou for your consideration with this. Wheelies At School The past few weeks, there have been more and more “wheelies” coming to school. We have been asking our students to not “wheel” in the halls because they do “bump” into others. Outside on the playground, it is very difficult for the children to run and walk with “wheelie” shoes especially during PE blocks. Please make sure your children are aware that if they are “wheeling” inside the school, they will be asked to remove the wheels until they go home. DO NOT SPEED THROUGH THE DRIVETHROUGH! Slow down on the street, the speed limit is only 30km. Every morning and afternoon, we have adults helping the children cross safely across the drivethrough. We are encouraging everyone to use the crosswalks. We also need the adults to slow down while driving through the driveway. All of us are working hard to keep the children safe, please slow down! The speed limit is 30km. End of Year Field Trips We have finally been able to secure busses for our end of year field trips. Parents please make a note of these dates. We will be needing parent volunteers to come on our trips. [email protected] ZONE TRACK MEET Friday May 29th is when our track team from Richard Bulpitt will be participating in the zone track meet. The meet is held at McLeod Athletic Park (next to Langley Secondary School). We will be bussing the team to the meet from school. We are only able to take students who are participating. This is because there is no space on the bus for extra students and we are unable to provide supervision. If your youngster is participating, please come out and cheer. More details will be coming home soon. Spirit Wear orders are due May 20. Sizing Samples are in the front foyer. Order forms are online or in the office . Way to go Ms. Rolston’s class for raising money for earthquake relief for Nepal. Thanks Mrs. Connolly’s class for also participating! Congratulations to Principal Caius and VP Rylan for helping Mrs. Lenko run the school today!! OUTSIDE SUPERVISION : Please note that there is no supervision for students on the playground until 15 minutes before the first bell and 15 minutes after the last bell. We are asking parents not to send students to school until 8:20am. Students can not be on the playground after 2:45pm without supervision. The office is a very busy place , especially now that we have over 400 children. Therefore, please limit any messages that need to be relayed to your child through the office. At home, explain and prearrange with children a place to meet after school. For after school activities; such as active kids or floor hockey; please write reminders in student agendas. This way both the student and the staff will be aware of where children need to be after school What’s Up at School Just a reminder that we have lots of important information on our website. www.richardbulpittelementaryschool.weebly.com ● ● ● ● You can follow us on twitter with @RichardBulpittS and don’t forget to check out our BLOG Boasting About Bulldogs Parents can also subscribe to “Remind” for texts regarding upcoming events.
