RAISING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL!
Five dance floors under one roof . . .
By SIHLE MKHIZE
THE roof will be on fire
at Raise the Roof!
This massive event will
happen at the Truth
nightclub in Midrand,
Jozi.
It’s happening next
Sunday and will run until
the next day, Freedom Day.
Two major record
companies in Mzansi, Soul
Candi and Soulistic, have
collaborated to make this
historic event possible.
Partygoers will be
fortunate enough to choose
from one of the five stages.
Speaking to SunBuzz, DJ
Euphonik said: “We’re all
working in the same
industry, so we came up
with the idea of
entertaining people under
one roof at the same venue
on a single day.”
He promised to give it all
he has in order to keep the
house on fire.
Kalawa Jazmee will be on
the forefront, especially in
the kwaito and Afro house
arena and Cash Time will
tune everything that
involves hip hop.
Other music genres,
including soul and jazz, will
be on the fifth and final
floor.
Sheree O’Brien, whose
aim is to make this event a
memorable one, said they
are ready to write a new
chapter as far as events
organising is concerned.
Sheree said: “We’re
prepared to do something
that’s never been done
before. Quality will be the
name of the game!
“But people are warned:
No booze or food will be
allowed at the venue.
There’ll be food stalls. One
thing's for sure, there’ll be
dancing all night long.
Raise the Roof is an
attempt to transform the
Truth nightclub into a
“boutique” type gig to
showcase a selection of
Mzansi’s leading dance
movements on an annual
basis across five different
stages.
Artists billed to
entertain at the venue
include Riky Rick, Maggz,
Kid X, KO, Naked DJ,
THA Muzik, DJ Bubbles,
DJ Christos, DJ Claude,

Durban’s Finest and Mo
Flava.
Partygoers are urged to
rush to Computicket and
buy tickets or go to Soul
Candi Records’ and
Soulistic Music’s
Facebook pages.

Swazi goes
back to her
first love
Swazi Dlamini, who will perform at the Joburg Theatre next Sunday.
By DIMAKATSO MOTAU
GOSPEL and jazz singer Swazi
Dlamini has embarked on a series of
performances to give her fans a taste
of all her five albums, one
performance at a time!
The former Joyous Celebration
member said the idea to have a series
of performances focusing on one
album at a time, came from the
demand of her fans.
“I’ve learnt through my
performances that some fans come to
the show expecting to hear some songs
from other albums, and when I don’t
perform those songs they get
disgruntled.
“But when I started listening to
feedback from my fans, I saw an
opportunity to package different
performances based on each album.
“This time around the performance
series focuses on my debut album, My
First Love,” she said.
She said this also gives her an
opportunity to reconnect with her old
as well as new fans, and also to revisit
the music she’s done over a decade
ago.
“This being my debut album, it’s an
important album as it introduced me
to the music industry and fans have
fond memories,” Swazi said.
Her performance at the Joburg
Theatre is part of a series of
countrywide gigs.
“I’ll record my performances,
because I’m not ruling out the
possibility of releasing a DVD or
sharing it online,” she added.
Swazi has four other albums under
her belt: Dance with Me, Gospel Meets
Jazz CD & DVD combo, Soul of Me and
The Gospel Truth.
) Catch Swazi Dlamini at the
Joburg Theatre on 26 April. Tickets
are available at joburgtheatre.co.za
for R150.
