Calling all Parents!!! - Raymond J. Fisher Middle School

R. J. FISHER MIDDLE SCHOOL
April 1, 2015
Principalʼs Corner - will return after Spring Break
Spring has sprung, so that means it’s testing time. Our Smarter Balanced testing will take place during the weeks following our spring
break. Math and English teachers will be implementing the tests during their class periods. Smarter Balanced is a new online test that has
been developed as a fair and reliable system of assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards. This test accurately describes
both student achievement and growth of student learning in English and math. Your child will be given class time to take the test;
however, if your son or daughter does not finish the test during the given class time or is absent on a testing day, he or she will be given
additional time during our extension/make-up days. Though make-up days are arranged, it is imperative that students be in attendance as
make-ups are cumbersome and are in lieu of class instruction.
Students are encouraged to bring their own ear buds for testing. If they forget or do not have their own, one will be supplied for them.
Please remind your child to have a novel with him or her at all times in case he or she finishes the test early. We really want to stress the
importance of your child attending school during testing. Thank you for making appointments after school rather than during school hours.
Your child’s teachers have met to discuss the homework load during this critical time; the students should observe reasonably reduced
homework in order to support them doing their best. Thank you for your cooperation with our assessments.

Testing Coordinator

Hi Friends in LG
We'll meet at the Main Street bridge (near 20 East Main
St.) promptly at 9am this Friday morning. We can decide
where to hike upon a consensus. We've had a consistently
great turn-out all year, and we typically get to meet at least
1-2 new faces each hike! Thanks for the great recruiting,
everyone! See you Friday (as school won't be in session
next week, we'll take the following Friday off).
Best, Janet (408-309-5844)
LGHS drawstring
athletic bags for sale!
Orange Ribbon Bags, a sophomore-run company from
Los Gatos High School's Honors English class is selling
drawstring athletic bags! These bags are black with a "Los
Gatos Wildcats" orange logo and paw print. They are being
sold for only $10 each and all of the proceeds go to The
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, an organization which
researches cures for blood cancer. Our company will be
selling our bags outside of Fisher's main office at 2:45 on
Wednesday April 1st, and Thursday April 2nd. Come out to
buy some great bags and support a wonderful charity!
Please let the attendance office
know if your student will be out
for any reason.
Please call or email attendance every day that your student is
out ill.
Remember students need to be fever free without meds for 24
hours before returning to school.

Did you hear the music?
Say thanks to LGEF donors!
Did you hear the
music last week?
Music across the
district was deep and
glorious. Students in
6th, 7th and 8th grade performed in
Choir, Band, and Orchestra in a joint
program with Fisher & LGHS students.
And the 1st,2nd and 3rd grade levels
had singing performances in the
elementary campuses – where the
appreciation and learning of music
theory begins.
NEWSFLASH!

child/per year, but any amount you can
give is appreciated.
If you have already made a donation
to support programs for the 2015-2016
