was my teacher, I never understood English. Grammar was
confusing to me and
so were the parts of
ST
speech. Mrs. Johnson
encouraged me and
increased my curiosity
about the subject. She
also inspired me in a
way that changed my life.
Being in the sixth- and seventh-grade years, I was trying
talent or even if I had one. Mrs.
Johnson has always told me what
a great writer I am and explained
to me that not everyone had a
true love for writing in the way
I do.
I wrote an essay in seventh
grade. I had written it for extra
credit, but Mrs. Johnson chose it

sure that she will inspire many
others in the future.
I look up to her, and I hope to
be like her one day. She shaped
me into the writer I am.
I hope that over time, I will
become even better, and I will
still look back and thank Mrs.
Johnson for inspiring me.

y favorite teacher is a
language arts teacher.
The irony of having my favorite
teacher in the dreaded language
arts class gets me every time.
How can such a cool teacher
teach language arts?
I don’t know how, but Stephanie Secker makes reading more
than a forced activity to test one’s
stamina. She makes reading the

at Indian Land when
I walked down the
hall, I saw Mrs.
Secker. The first
thing I noticed was
how incredibly short
she was.
The second thing I noticed
was how incredibly large her
smile was. A smile can indicate
many things, but I didn’t know
what Mrs. Secker was smiling
about. I thought it wouldn’t
last long, but Mrs. Secker was
smiling the next day, and she is
still smiling. I then realized that
smiling indicated a love to teach
students.
Thanks, Mrs. Secker, for
helping me develop into who I
am!

lthough there are many
great teachers in my school,
there is one who has inspired
me the most. Her name is Paige
Johnson. She was my English
teacher in sixth and seventh
grades.
Mrs. Johnson is a breast cancer survivor; this shows the characteristic of being determined
and grateful. She has all of the
qualities that a good teacher is
expected to have. She deserves
to be awarded teacher of the year
because she is the ideal teacher.
Mrs. Johnson is the perfect
combination of strictness and
kindness. She always makes
class fun, but if someone tries
to play the fool in her class, she

erry Smalls is my favorite
teacher because he is very
responsible and he truly cares
about his class and what he’s
teaching. He is the band teacher
at A.R. Rucker, and I think he’s
doing a very good job. He is
talented and funny, and he likes
the subject he is teaching.
The band room is always so
organized, and I think that an
organized classroom is really
important for learning.
I have Mr. Smalls
for band and for
piano. I am quiet, and
a lot of times people
don’t notice me. Mr.
Smalls is quiet like I
am (except when he is teaching
us), and I like having another
quiet person for a teacher.

Mr. Smalls invited me to
All-County Band this year. It
was a really cool experience,
and I liked hanging out with
band kids from my school and
the other schools in Lancaster
County as well. His class makes
me feel included and that I am
an important part of the band.
