8. Sailing Instructions
8.1 The Sailing instructions will be available at the time of registration for the event and may be
available on the RNCYC website – www.rncyc.com beforehand.
9. Venue
9.1 Racing will take place in the upper Firth of Clyde, with the start area between Helensburgh and
Greenock and up to approximately 2 miles from Rhu Marina. Admiralty Chart 1994 refers.
Competitors’ attention is drawn to the area of rocks inshore of Clyde Navigation buoy no 24 off
Rosneath Point. When racing, yachts must leave Buoy No 24 on the correct hand. In exceptional
weather conditions racing may be inside the Gareloch. A map detailing the position of the RNCYC
clubhouse, the racing area and also the launching area at Blairvadach is available on the RNCYC
website – www.rncyc.com
10. Courses
10.1 Courses, round laid racing marks, will be within, approximately, a two mile radius of the start
area. Details of the courses to be sailed will be confirmed in the sailing instructions at the time of
registration. In principle the course will be based either on an Olympic Triangle with the reach mark
laid so as to form an internal angle of approximately 45 degrees at the windward mark or a
windward/leeward course.
11. Penalty System
11.1 The Exoneration Penalty and the RYA Arbitration procedures of the RYA Rules Disputes
Procedures will be available. Decisions from RYA Arbitration can be referred to a protest committee
but cannot be reopened or appealed.

12.2 (a) When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of
her race scores.
(b) When from five to seven races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of
her race scores excluding her worst score.
(c) When eight races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores
excluding her two worst scores.

13. Measurement
13.1 All sails at this event must be measured and endorsed on the boat's measurement certificate in
accordance with FFI rule 13.8.2. The boat shall race only with sails endorsed on her certificate except
that, in the case of a borrowed boat, the boat may race with any combination of the sails endorsed
on the certificate of the boat or on the certificate of another boat owned by the helmsperson. Both
these certificates must be shown at registration and will be examined by the organising authority
and such sail numbers as used will be declared to the Race Committee at registration.
13.2 The Race Committee reserves the right to require any boat or sail to be submitted for
measurement at any time before or during the series. This includes an inspection of the required
safety equipment in accordance with FFI rule 15. Each competitor will be required to complete a
scrutineering form in respect of their boat and must submit this at registration.
13.3 UKFFA has no obligation to have an official class measurer available for the purposes of
measurement of new equipment at events; competitors requiring new sails measured at the event
should make their own arrangements with a class measurer prior to the event.
13.4 A personal flotation device of an “International Standard Approved Type” will be worn by both
helm and crew at ALL times when afloat at this event. This replaces FFI rule 15.4.
14. Radio Communication
14.1 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive
radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile phones.
