Dragon Boat Racing
The Rotary Clubs of Edgbaston Convention and Birmingham Breakfast are holding a charity Dragon Boat
Race Day on Sunday 19th July 2015.
The fund-raising event will be held at Edgbaston Reservoir, Birmingham B16 9EE, from 10am to 4pm.
What is Dragon Boat Racing?
Dragon Boat Racing is an ancient Chinese tradition over 2000 years old and one of Britain’s most competitive
water sports. It is a great way to raise money and it is spectacular, colourful and exciting fun.
Teams and racing
Teams are made up of 12 - 16 paddlers, 3 reserves and a drummer. Teams can change their crew between
races so that more people can have a go.
Each team is given full safety instructions and a short practice before the races. All equipment is provided –
boats, paddles, life jackets, etc., and the whole event is organised with safety in mind.
Teams will race one other in a number of heats throughout the day and the fastest teams will then compete in
the final. There will be a prize giving ceremony at the end of the day where the winning team will be
presented with medals and a trophy.
