Mid-Norway Atlas - Rock Solid Images

Mid-Norway Rock Physics &
Seismic Response Atlas
Following the successful release of the 101well Barents Sea Study, RSI announces the MidNorway Rock Physics and Seismic Response
Atlas, comprising 89 wells, for the Cretaceous
Springar, Nise, Lysing and Lange Formations.
The study has been updated to include 59 wells
with additional modeling in the Jurassic. This
study is an indispensable reference tool that will
be of benefit to those companies exploring in
the region.

RPD – Rock Physics Diagnostics
For many reasons we would like to be able to model or estimate the
effective elastic moduli of rocks in terms of the properties of the
various constituent minerals and pore fluids. To do this accurately
one must incorporate:
hh the individual elastic moduli of the constituents
hh the volume fractions of the constituents
hh geometric details of how the various constituents are arranged
Rock Physics Diagnostics is the process that enables us to understand
the elastic behavior of the reservoir and non-reservoir zones and
correct for problems encountered in well log data, by finding a rock
physics (effective medium) model that is consistent with both well
and core data when available.
Perturbational Modeling
One approach to interpreting seismic data for rock properties is
forward modeling. Fluid and optionally lithology, porosity, and
geometry, are perturbed, the corresponding elastic properties are
calculated, and then synthetic seismic traces are generated. The
underlying assumption is that if the seismic response is similar, the
properties and conditions in the sub-surface that give rise to this
response are similar as well.
Systematically conducted perturbational forward modeling helps
create a catalogue of seismic signatures of lithology, porosity, and fluid
away from well control and, by so doing, sets realistic expectations
for hydrocarbon detection and optimizes the selection of seismic
attributes in an anticipated depositional setting.
rockAVO Dynamic Rock Physics Studies
RSI’s dynamic regional rock physics studies are delivered with the rockAVO browser which allows direct interaction with
the study wells. This provides clients with remarkable modeling versatility through real-time modeling of multiple reservoir
property scenarios using reservoir-specific rock physics models and workflows. Clients are also able to import the seismic
data at prospect locations for comparison with regional study analog wells.
