Next term will also be the
last term for Mrs Rudd,
who has been working hard
to ensure that teaching and
learning in school are where
they should be and that I
am fully equipped to deal
with all of the day to day
intricacies of being a head
teacher in a busy primary
school.
During the last week of
term we are planning to
hold an afternoon tea for
the children in school to say
goodbye to Mrs Rudd as
well as any special assembly
we may hold nearer the
time. We will be collecting
donations towards something for her new caravan.
If any of you would like to
donate please either bring
into the school office or to
the class teacher. I’m sure
any cards or well wishes will
also be much appreciated
by Mrs Rudd too.

This term The School Council voted for a
joke-a-thon for Red Nose Day. We wrote
funny jokes to share with the class then we
picked the best joke to share with the whole
school in assembly and we all had a giggle.
Our red noses sold out in a week wow! We
also wore something red and we raised
£463.12 (the Government
will double this amount so
that is a fantastic £926.24)
Thank you all for your support.

about plants and trees, our parents came along
too. At Kiora Hall we sat down in a room and a
staff member told us about safety around plants.
We didn’t know that there was so much bacteria
around certain plants!
We were there to plant some bulbs and the equipment that we needed was a shovel, a watering
can, compost and gloves. Staff told us the shovel
was very dangerous because it was sharp, so we
had to be very careful. We got into groups of
three and we had to all take turns with the equipment. Most of us planted four bulbs, some of us
managed to plant five or six! One person got a
hand full of compost and everyone took a turn to
dig with the shovel. We also had to avoid the
other growing plants because we could kill them if
we stood on them.
After that we collected sticks from the grounds
and tried to see who could gather the most
branches. There were many different types of
logs and wood and we tried to find out which trees
they came from.
Later, we got some paper and a coloured crayon
and we went up to a tree and placed the paper on
it. We used our crayons and scribbled on the
paper to see what effect we got from the tree.
There was an oak tree, a birch tree and a fir tree.
Finally, we went back inside Kiora Hall and took
our muddy shoes off. We went over some details
on plants and we all did a quiz about planting to
see what we had remembered during the planting
session. We each got a plant of our very own to
take home to grow which were in mini pots. Then
we walked back to school in a line with our mums
and dads, nanas and grandads. We all went
home with our little plants which will soon be
growing into huge flowers. By Evie and Brodie

Foundation Stage
Foundation Stage have been thinking
about People Who Help Us. As part of
this topic we have been looking at people who help us stay safe. We were
lucky enough to have a visit from the
PCSO’s and the firefighters. We learned
a lot about their jobs and the equipment
that they use.
UNIVERSAL INFANT FREE SCHOOL
MEALS
The Government has provided funding for
children in Reception and Key Stage 1 within
schools, to take a free school meal.
This is great news, however, this also has
implications for school funding. If you presently qualify for free school meals the schools
gets extra funding called Pupil Premium for
us to spend on your child. We still need to
know who qualifies for Pupil Premium. If you
think you may qualify for free school meals
Y4 Topic
Y3 Beamish Trip
Y4’s topic was North America and
Pocohontas.
This term we studied North America and
the Legend of Pocahontas. It has been
amazing and a pleasure to learn about
different things including making totem
poles, head dresses and tipis.
In our class assembly we used costumes, dance and music to tell the story
of Pocahontas and the English invasion
of North America. We have been doing
cliff hanger sentences in English this is
one example: John Smith wanted to go Y3 Beamish Trip
back yet he…(leaving the reader in susYear 3 went to Beamish to make sweets.
pense!)
We made fondant treats. We also
watched the sweets being made in the
old sweet shop. We liked the gift shop
and sweet making.
The sweets were as
tasty as a cake. The
sweet, delicious
sweets were so nice
to eat.

swimming gala at Billingham Forum The
following children swam at the event; Allana
McDonald, Kelsey Smith, Abigail Smith,
Ellivia Stoddart, Brandon Speight and Kiah

Next term I am hoping to run a Nurturing Programme for parents. This will be a ten week
course that will be beneficial for parents struggling
with behaviour.
75g olive oil spread
Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl add the
spread. Rub in with your fingertips until it
resembles breadcrumbs.
Previously, we ran a cookery club in school with
the Children’s Food Trust. I have been fortunate
enough to do some training with them and I will
be able to run these classes again in school.
25g caster sugar
100g mixed dried
fruit
5ml spoon mixed spice
1 egg
2 x 15ml spoons semi skimmed milk
Letters will be going to parents after the holidays,
so look out for them in your child’s book bag.
2 x 5ml spoons demerara sugar
Recipe for you to try at home.
Preheat the oven to 180⁰C or gas mark 4
Method
Add the sugar, dried fruit and mix spice and
mix all together.
Crack the egg into a small bowl. Whisk with
a fork, add the milk and whisk again. Pour
the milk mixture a little at a time into the flour
and mix together until it makes a soft dough.
Divide the mixture into 12 rough mounds and
place them spaced out onto the baking tray.
Sprinkle each one with demerara sugar.
Cook for 15-20 minutes until golden brown
on top. Leave to cool for a few minutes and
transfer to a cooling rack.
Mathletics, Spellodrome, Reading Eggs, Rights Respecting School
The children of Rosebrook continue to
inspire me with their confidence and
ability to rise to a challenge. Mathletics
is a wonderful resource bought by the
school for home and school use for children from Y1—Y6.
The children can now use
their same logins to access Spellodrome and
Reading Eggs.
If your child has lost their log in details,
just ask the class teacher who will be
happy to print it off again for you. There
are Mathletics clubs before and after
school, just ask Miss Butterworth or the
school office for details.
Rights Respecting School
We are currently raising awareness
amongst the children of their rights and
you will see new displays linked with each
term’s work. Information on the work for
each term is on the school website. There
will be a summer project to link with other
schools – more information will be available
later in the term. In the meantime, please
take opportunities to discuss children’s rights
at home to support the work in school.
