We are currently recruiting a full-time researcher for a one year fixed-term
project coordination role to lead on a research project focussing on European
Jewish museums.
The role will encompass desk research, and the coordination, design and
implementation of a pan – European baseline survey of Jewish European museums.
The incumbent will analyse the results of the survey and will produce a report of
summarising this analysis and the results. The role will involve some travelling to
museums in Europe. The appointee will be expected to work largely from home, with
regular meetings and support from the Rothschild Foundation (Hanadiv) Europe and
the Association of European Jewish Museums.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Desk research and the formulation of the survey
 A comprehensive literature review
 Research into national contexts and heritage issues across Europe.
 Building up a wide-ranging database of European Jewish museums
 Liaising with external advisors and consultants
 Formulating the survey questionnaire
2. Launching and conducting the survey
 Running a pilot of the survey and working closely with respondents
 Promoting the survey to target institutions
 Making contact with the relevant stakeholders and maintaining
communication channels to ensure a high response rate
 Conducting the survey through email, phone and face-to-face where
applicable – this may include several research trips
3. Analysing results and producing a publication
 Drawing conclusions where possible from survey results and
summarising findings
 Producing an in-depth report to be published online and as a hard-copy
 Drafting recommendations for the Foundation on the basis of the survey
results
Who are we looking for?
Ideally, the applicant will have carried out similar research reflecting the areas
outlined above and will be familiar with museums and associated terminology;
however, we are willing to consider those who have carried out surveys in other
subject fields. We are looking for someone educated to at least Master’s and

preferably PhD level. Please note: the Foundation is based in London and the AEJM
is based in Amsterdam, however, the project co-ordinator does not need to be based
in either of these countries.
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following:

11.Fluent in English and at least one other European language
Desirable:
12.Experience of working with museums and/or in the museology field
13.Familiarity with Jewish museums and Jewish collections in Europe
14.Experience of conducting pan-European research

Benefits
This is a freelance position available to someone who is self-employed and therefore
responsible for their own taxes and employment status.
We are willing to consider exceptional applicants who would prefer a part-time role.
A fee of £28,000 - £33,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) for the one
year project will be payable on submission of monthly invoices.
All reasonable and pre-authorised travelling expenses will be reimbursed on
submission of an expense claim form supported by receipts.
