President’s Message
Dear Round Hill Community:
Save the Date!
May 23—Pool Opening
We turned a corner in 2014, increasing membership at Round Hill Pool and Tennis Club for
the first time in several years. The increase in membership afforded us an opportunity to take care of
some of our most pressing maintenance issues including painting the exterior of the clubhouse, replacing damaged siding and continued work to improve the electrical system. However, we still
have a long list of maintenance items to address and there are numerous ideas for improvements to
the facilities which will require further increases in membership to fund. Your continued efforts to
recruit friends and neighbors to join Round Hill is therefore greatly appreciated.
One of my favorite things about Round Hill is how little it has really changed over its 54
year history. It has always been a great place for families. The trees may have grown taller, but the
roving packs of pre-teen boys and girls annoying the lifeguards and generally acting goofy are not
much different than when my brothers, our friends and I roamed the pool in the 70’s. The food,
games and belly flop exhibitions on the Fourth of July remain the same and the day to day activity at
the pool is basically the same.
Maintaining this family friendly atmosphere is critical to the club’s continued success. We
welcome and encourage cooking out and socializing at the pool. If you are going to drink alcohol at
the pool, please do so responsibly and mindful of the other families seeking to enjoy the pool and
club. Pools can be dangerous places and every year our lifeguards pull a couple of kids who are
struggling from the pool. The added attention of adult patrons around the pool, monitoring at least
their own children can only add to the safety of the pool. If you are a parent of one or more members of the roving packs of pre-teen boys or girls let loose at Round Hill every summer, poke your
head in at the club every once in a while just so they know the adults are watching.
In addition to maintaining the family friendly atmosphere at Round Hill, the board is committed to improving the value of membership in the club. The Snack Shack introduced last summer
was well received and we plan to increase the hours and offerings this summer. We plan to launch
WiFi service this summer and are implementing electronic payment options for paying dues and for
club programs. We are looking into expanded programming in the Spring and Fall including youth
tennis clinics and social events.
Because of increased operating costs and the need to address long term maintenance issues,
the board decided that an increase in dues is warranted for 2015. The last increase was over 5 years
ago. We raised the issue at the annual meeting without objection. Annual dues for regular membership will increase to $450 for 2015 except for Round Hill residents who participate in the Round Hill
trash program. Their dues will remain the same as 2014. Dues for pool and tennis memberships at
traditional country clubs can run around $250/month for twelve months. Based upon an informal
survey, our dues are comparable to or less than the dues for neighborhood associations which operate pools but do not provide guards. Round Hill remains a considerable bargain and the board remains committed to maintaining the value of your membership.
For those of you who want to contribute more for the value received from membership in
Round Hill, we do offer our Premier Membership for $550. Last year we had 9 Premier Members. This year, I would love to see that number increase to at least 20.
If you have any questions or concerns about the direction or operation of the club, or if
you have ideas on improving the club, please feel free to give me a call. You can reach me
at work at 913-549-4700 or on my cell phone at 913-526-7396. My email address is

Tennis Highlights for 2015
* Club pros Aaron Greenbaum and Dustin Franzen return this year offering lessons and clinics.
* Tencap Sign-ups Now – April 1. Play begins on May 1.
* JTL Signups April 1 – May 15 at 5 PM. Register online at http://www.kcjtl.org/. Season: June 1 – mid July.
Building on last year’s success, we want to continue to offer tennis for all levels in our programs by introducing new players
to tennis and recruiting new participants for inter-club competition.
JTL (Junior Tennis League): JTL is an excellent opportunity to introduce your kids to tennis. Participants play organized
matches against players at area clubs. All skill levels are welcome. Aaron Greenbaum will assist our JTL efforts by running
clinics for the players and overseeing the club ladder. JTL age groups are 10 & under, 12 & under, and 13 & up. Contact Lisa
Erickson with questions, to volunteer as a team parent, or to help recruit players. We hope to have at least 8 players for
each age group.
Tencap: Tencap is an inter-club doubles league. Round Hill teams have been highly competitive over the years with both
men’s and women’s team at various levels during both the summer and fall seasons. Congrats to Champion Captains Travis,
Bill, Tom, Gib and Kent in 2014 for great sportsmanship, hospitality and fun! Contact Kent Erickson for men’s teams and
Lisa Erickson for women’s teams if you are interested, sooner than later! The deadline is fast approaching!
Adult Casual Play: When the weather is a little nicer and the courts are dry, you will likely find a group of men heading to
the courts on Sunday at 1:00 for pick-up tennis. Once the days get longer you can also join in on Thursday night tennis
for the men. The women play on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. The club also hosts mixed doubles tennis
socials throughout the summer.
Lessons and Clinics: Aaron Greenbaum, a member of the Baker University tennis team, and Dustin Franzen, an experienced
tennis coach, will offer youth and adults clinics as well as private lessons. Steven Wirtz will again be assisting Aaron with
programs.
Keep an eye on the club website roundhillclub.org for updated information on this summer’s tennis opportunities.
Contact Lisa Erickson with any questions about tennis at Round Hill.

Ready for Pool Time!
roundhillclub.org for more info!
The pool and the lifeguards are ready for you this season! You’ll see
some new faces on the chair and we’re pleased to announce three managers at
the helm: Jay Anderson, Jenna Foiles and Hayleigh Chudick. We’ll be working on the cleanliness of the club, the safety of all members and their guests
as well as a warm friendliness with everyone too.
We’re in search of a swim coach and more people for swim lessons. Once
that is settled, we’ll send out registration immediately. In the meantime dream of warm weather and the water sparkling with the reflection of
the sun.

Thank You Marty!
The Board would like to recognize Marty Lustig for all the
volunteer work he’s put in at the club. Over the past several years he has been updating the electrical, replacing
pool lights, putting in new barn lights, replacing outlets and
adding exit signs. Much of this work was just to make
sure we were staying up to code. This behind the scenes
work does not go unnoticed! Thank you for all you do
Marty.
