It is important to track and manage production jobs throughout operations.
Some operators choose not to track production tasks because entering
tracking information with a keyboard and mouse slows them down. This can
result in jobs getting “lost” on the production floor and difficulty tracking and
improving the productivity of the manufacturing stations on the shop floor.
Job Scan, which is an optional extended feature of RICOH® ProcessDirector™
delivered by our Professional Services organization, utilizes barcode scanners
to advance jobs through the workflow. To track their work, operators simply
scan the barcodes of one or more jobs and then scan the action they are
taking. Barcode scanning takes minimal time away from job production,
while providing full tracking information for management purposes.
Job Scan is useful in environments in which operators can more easily use a
barcode scanner than interact with the product GUI. Any job action can be
expressed with a barcode. In addition to the time saved by simple barcode
scanning, other information can be determined—for example, the time it
takes for a job to process through a finishing task or the progress a job has
made in its manufacturing process.
What problems can Job Scan solve?

When job production requires work at manual stations,
it is often difficult to know where a job is in the production process or on the production floor—for example,
a quality check procedure after print or a trimming
operation in the bindery. Job Scan allows you to track
the jobs so you can quickly find them.
