Employment Opportunity: Sales Associate, The Shop - Part-time SUMMARY: The Rubin Museum of Art is dedicated to creating a dynamic environment that stimulates learning, promotes understanding, and inspires personal connections to the idea, cultures, and art of the Himalayas, India and neighboring regions. Now beginning its second decade, the Rubin Museum welcomes over 175,000 visitors annually and has over 4,000 members. The yearly pace is lively with more than six changing exhibitions, over 250 films, concerts, and on-stage conversations, and a robust roster of other educational initiatives. The Rubin Museum’s preeminent collection includes over 3,200 objects spanning more than 1,500 years to the present day. Included are works of art of great quality and depth from the Tibetan plateau, with examples from surrounding regions including Nepal, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and Mongolia. The Rubin is seeking a part-time Sales Associate to work in the Shop. This parttime position requires flexible hours including evenings and weekends and is ideal for someone interested in working in a museum shop environment. The incumbent will report to the Manager, The Shop. Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Daily store activities including opening and closing procedures and maintaining excellent display conditions. Delivers quality customer service; assists customers in making merchandise selections via familiarizing them with the art. Performs cash, check and credit card transactions using approved tender handling procedures Ability to work flexible hours (18 to 20 plus hours per week, including evenings and weekends). Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Retail and/or visitor related experience, in museums or cultural institutions preferred. Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Ability to provide excellent customer service including: Projecting a pleasant manner; being courteous, professional and respectful to customers at all times is required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to demonstrate creativity, discretion, a sense of humor, ability to trouble shoot and willingness to multi-task. Ability to use a variety of computer programs (including Microsoft Office Suite and Internet Explorer) and the ability to master retail programs quickly – a Plus. Some knowledge in Asian arts, cultures and products a Plus. Ability to work precisely and accurately under pressure. Be able to work nights and weekends, as needed.
