Dr. Alann Solina Dr. Solina presently serves as Professor, Vice Chairman, and Chief of the Division of Cardiac Anesthesia. Dr. Solina joined the faculty at RWJMS in 1991 after completing an Internal Medicine residency at St. Josephs Medical Center, an Anesthesia residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in N.Y., and a cardiac anesthesia fellowship at Pennsylvania State University at Hershey Medical Center. The first cardiac anesthesia team was formed under his leadership in 1995. He also developed the RWJMS Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship Program at that time. Under his leadership, the Cardiac Anesthesia team has developed and significantly participated in many important initiatives and programs including; the utilization of inhaled nitric oxide to treat refractory pulmonary hypertension (first program in N.J.), Fast Track Cardiac Anesthesia (first program in N.J.), anesthesia management for heart transplantation, robotic surgery, and minimally invasive valve surgery with percutaneously placed venous drainage and cardioplegia catheters (first in N.J.). The cardiac anesthesia fellowship program at RWJMS was the first in N.J. to be certified by the ACGME.
