Workplace System Leadership - Aboriginal Human Resource Council

 Award Recipient Profile
Shell Canada Workplace System Leadership: CSR Awarded to organizations that have demonstrated innovative and effective practices in one of the following workplace systems: HR, procurement, communications, CSR. We are very pleased to honour Shell Canada with the inaugural Workplace Inclusion Leadership Award – Workplace System Leadership: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Performance Excellence category. For nearly 30-‐years, Shell has been active in social investment to help Indigenous people reach their career potential, and to help Indigenous communities realize and unlock their possibilities. The corporation’s track record in this area is exemplary, and the reason why the Aboriginal Human Resource Council’s charity welcomed Stephanie Sterling, General Manager of Shell’s Venture Support Integration and Social Performance to its Board of Directors. For Shell, increasing community wellness and education is not an afterthought – it is at the core of their business strategy, and its principle of being a good neighbour by helping to build strong and resilient communities. The company enthusiastically supports programs that increase Indigenous high school completion rates, and helps students pursue their post-‐secondary education goals. Shell’s community involvement with the Indigenous community has transformed into a 360-‐degree approach, which places focus on kindergarten-‐grade 12 programs, post-‐secondary scholarships, and events that recognize Indigenous leaders. They also do great work to support Indigenous women in the workplace; including helping them advance through trades and apprenticeship. Most recently, Shell collaborated with Indspire as the founding partner to create Industry in the Classroom – Career in Oil and Gas Modules. The goal of the modules is to inspire Indigenous students to pursue careers in the energy sector in a fun and engaging way. The company has implemented a social investment module, which provides a process to help them assess social problems, and define and measure goals and outcomes to ensure they are addressing community needs. Shell believes that prosperity is not singular, but rather a balance between commerce and social responsibility.
