While the Liturgy of the Mass of the Anglican Use of the Roman Rite differs somewhat from the ordinary Mass of the Roman Rite (the Mass most are familiar with) it is a Catholic Mass and does satisfy the Sunday Mass obligation for any Catholic of any Rite. The Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman Society functions as a mission of St. Thomas More Parish in Scranton, a parish under the jurisdiction of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter established by Pope Benedict XVI, therefore this is a separate community apart from Sacred Heart Parish. We have agreed to allow the use of our church twice a month for their Mass, in a spirit of fraternal cooperation. This is the Mass as it was celebrated prior to the changes that followed the Second Vatican Council. It is offered entirely in Latin, and is offered ad orientem (facing the altar). This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the liturgical history of the Church, and therefore to understand better the way we offer the Mass today. All are welcome, and encouraged to attend. Msgr. Nave will be offering a Missa Cantata (sung Mass). Music will be provided by the Sacred Heart Schola. THE SANCTUARY LAMP is burning from May 22nd through June 4th in memory of Joseph Weber Requested by the Paulette Weber MAY: MONTH OF THE ROSARY May is the month of the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is a gospel prayer in which Mary invites us to join her on a journey through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we gather with our family and friends to pray the rosary, the mysteries bring us to unite with Jesus through the heart of our Blessed Mother Mary. Therefore, we will pray the Rosary 20 minutes before all weekend Masses during May. Please plan to pray the rosary before the Masses. PRAYER CORNER For all who suffer with depression, grief or anguish following an abortion: that they will turn to the Lord who will wipe away all their tears through an outpouring of his merciful love. Time to re-register for religious education classes or register for the first time. Classes will be offered for children in grades kindergarten through eighth. Forms are available on the racks near the church entrances and on the parish’s website. Please complete both the registration and medical forms. Payment is due at the time of registration. The cost remains the same as last year: $70 for one child, $125 for two children and $175 for three or more children. The deadline to register is June 22. If you have questions, please contact Kristine Porter, director of religious education, at 610-837-7841. Want to Help? If you have ever considered working with children in the religious education program, then please consider it again. The Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) needs a few more co-catechists. Co-catechists assist one another in the classroom. One may teach and the other grade papers, for example. You can work with little children or older children. The PREP program is also looking for a volunteer who can assist the director on Wednesday nights. The volunteer would help open and close the school and assist at the door. If you are interested in volunteering as a co-catechist or PREP assistant, then please contact Kristine Porter at 610-837-7841 or at [email protected]. PARISH PICNIC UPDATE It’s hard to believe; but, the annual parish picnic is only 6 weeks away. A lot still needs to be done beforehand. This year’s annual parish picnic, which will be the 85th consecutive one, is scheduled for the weekend of July 10, 11 and 12. The next picnic committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Burkhart building. All parishioners are welcome to attend; especially, those willing to actively participate in the planning and operation of any of the food stands. All current stand chairpersons are strongly urged to attend this important meeting or send a representative. Please bear in mind that one of the main beneficiaries of the picnic is the sustained operation of Sacred Heart School. The food and beverage operations are, by far, the primary profit generators of the picnic and their continued success and improved profitability is of primary importance. New ideas are always welcome. To keep up with all the latest goings on in the parish, Like us on Facebook: Sacred Heart Church Bath.
