ANGLICAN USE MASS*
The Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman
Anglican Use Society will have Mass at 5
p.m. on Sunday, June 7th celebrating the
First Sunday after Trinity.
*Anyone is welcome to attend this Mass! While the Liturgy
of the Mass of the Anglican Use of the Roman Rite differs
somewhat from the ordinary Mass of the Roman Rite (the
Mass most are familiar with) it is a Catholic Mass and does
satisfy the Sunday Mass obligation for any Catholic of any
Rite. The Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman Society
functions as a mission of St. Thomas More Parish in
Scranton, a parish under the jurisdiction of the Ordinariate
of the Chair of St. Peter established by Pope Benedict XVI,
therefore this is a separate community apart from Sacred
Heart Parish. We have agreed to allow the use of our
church twice a month for their Mass, in a spirit of fraternal
cooperation.

THE TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS
On Sunday, June 14th at 12:30 p.m.,
we will have the Traditional Latin Mass
celebrating the Sunday within the
Octave of the Sacred Heart. This is the
Mass as it was celebrated prior to the
changes that followed the Second
Vatican Council. It is offered entirely in
Latin, and is offered ad orientem (facing
the altar). This is a wonderful opportunity to experience
the liturgical history of the Church, and therefore to
understand better the way we offer the Mass today. All
are welcome, and encouraged to attend. Msgr. Nave will
be offering a Missa Cantata (sung Mass). Music will be
provided by the Sacred Heart Schola.
THE SANCTUARY LAMP is burning from May 22nd through
June 4th in memory of

MAY: MONTH OF THE ROSARY
May is the month of the Holy Rosary.
The Rosary is a gospel prayer in which
Mary invites us to join her on a journey
through
the
life,
death,
and
resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
When we gather with our family and
friends to pray the rosary, the
mysteries bring us to unite with Jesus
through the heart of our Blessed Mother Mary. Therefore,
we will pray the Rosary 20 minutes before all weekend
Masses during May. Please plan to pray the rosary
before the Masses.
PRAYER CORNER
For all who suffer with depression, grief or anguish
following an abortion: that they will turn to the Lord
who will wipe away all their tears through an
outpouring of his merciful love.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Thursday, May 28, 2015
6:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Church
Confessions start at 7:00 p.m.
“Take some time away and spend it
with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.”
It’s that time of year again!
Time to re-register for religious education classes or
register for the first time. Classes will be offered for
children in grades kindergarten through eighth.
Forms are available on the racks near the church
entrances and on the parish’s website. Please complete
both the registration and medical forms. Payment is
due at the time of registration. The cost remains the
same as last year: $70 for one child, $125 for two
children and $175 for three or more children. The
deadline to register is June 22.
If you have questions, please contact Kristine Porter,
director of religious education, at 610-837-7841.
Want to Help?
If you have ever considered working with children in the
religious education program, then please consider it
again. The Parish Religious Education Program (PREP)
needs a few more co-catechists. Co-catechists assist
one another in the classroom. One may teach and the
other grade papers, for example. You can work with
little children or older children.
The PREP program is also looking for a volunteer who
can assist the director on Wednesday nights. The
volunteer would help open and close the school and
assist at the door.
If you are interested in volunteering as a co-catechist or
PREP assistant, then please contact Kristine Porter at
610-837-7841 or at [email protected].
CONFIRMATION
This year’s Confirmation will be on December 2, 2015 at
4:30 p.m. Please pray for the candidates who are
preparing for this Sacrament.

BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL
As of today, our parishioners have raised $9,570 from
104 parishioners representing 7.26% of our total number
of registered families in our parish. Our parish goal is
$67,098. We need the support of all of our parish
families to reach our goal. If you have not made your
pledge of support, you may return your pledge form to
the parish office or make your gift online. Remember,
every gift counts, no gift is too small. If you have any
questions or would like to make a gift, please call the
parish office or visit the Appeal website at
www.2015.baa.org.
DOMINICAN CHAPTER MEETING
The Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic Meeting will be held
on Saturday, May 30th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Fr.
Post room.
GIFT PRESENTERS AT MASS
The privilege of presenting the gifts at Mass is
customarily extended to those who requested the Mass.
If you have requested a Sunday or Holy Day Mass and are
able to attend, please see the ushers as early before
Mass as possible so that you may participate in the
Offertory Procession.
PARISH PICNIC UPDATE
It’s hard to believe; but, the annual parish picnic is only
6 weeks away. A lot still needs to be done beforehand.
This year’s annual parish picnic, which will be the 85th
consecutive one, is scheduled for the weekend of July
10, 11 and 12. The next picnic committee meeting will
be held on Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Burkhart
building. All parishioners are welcome to attend;
especially, those willing to actively participate in the
planning and operation of any of the food stands. All
current stand chairpersons are strongly urged to attend
this important meeting or send a representative.
Please bear in mind that one of the main beneficiaries of
the picnic is the sustained operation of Sacred Heart
School. The food and beverage operations are, by far,
the primary profit generators of the picnic and their
continued success and improved profitability is of
primary importance. New ideas are always welcome.

WELCOME: We welcome all who join us at our Mass. We
encourage you to become an active participant in the life of our
Parish. All Catholics who live within our Parish boundaries should
register. Please call the Parish Office for more information.
PARISH SCHOOL: Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish School is a fullyaccredited Pre-Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle school of
the Diocese of Allentown. Moral development, proper study
skills, and strength of character are integrated into our
academic plan. Registration for all grades is ongoing. Please
contact the school office for more info or a personal tour.
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM is celebrated on Sunday at
Noon. If you are a parishioner and would like to schedule a
Baptism, please contact the Parish Office. Prior to the
baptism, parents must attend a Baptism Preparation Class
which is designed to instruct the parents about the teachings
of the church regarding Baptism, and to offer assistance in the
spiritual preparation for their child’s reception of the first of
the Sacraments of the Church.
GODPARENT/SPONSOR ELIGIBILITY FORMS: In order to act as
a godparent for Baptism or a Sponsor for Confirmation, one
must be a Catholic in good standing. Specifically this means
Mass attendance every Sunday (Exodus 20:8), striving to live
the moral precepts of the Church, and if married, a valid
marriage in the Catholic Church.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): Those who
desire entrance into the Catholic Church are warmly welcome
through the RCIA. Please contact the Pastor for more
information.
THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Parishioners who are
contemplating the Sacrament of Matrimony should contact the
Pastor and mutually agree upon a date at least a year prior to
the Wedding. The Church takes the preparation for the
Sacrament of Matrimony very seriously, and requires
completion of the Diocesan Marriage Preparation Program six
months before the wedding. The normative time for weddings
is Saturday between 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Weddings are not
celebrated on major holidays, nor on the first weekend of
June in deference to Ordination of Priests each year at that
time. Either the Bride or the Groom must be a practicing
member of Sacred Heart Parish in order to request a wedding
date.
COMMUNION TO THE HOMEBOUND: A Priest or Deacon will
visit monthly. Extraordinary Ministers visit those who wish to
receive more often. Always notify us about the homebound
parishioners who wish to be visited.
THE SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK is given to
those who are seriously ill and in danger of death. When there
is danger of death, please call the Pastor anytime, day or
night.
PARISH MEMORIALS: Following the death of a relative or
friend, offerings may be made to the Church in loving memory
of the deceased. Offerings may specify a particular request or
be placed in the Memorial Fund for parish needs.
CHILDCARE DURING MASS is available for infants through
preschool each Sunday during the 9:30 AM Mass in the
Kindergarten room (in the school – use the rear stairs).
Registration is not needed. Walk-ins are welcome!
