Australian Festival of Chamber Music Executive Director - Position Description Job Title: Salary: Location: Reports to: Executive Director Competitive Townsville, North Queensland Chair, Board of Directors The Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) is seeking a new Executive Director to lead this unique and successful festival into its third decade. Based in Townsville with a small administrative team, the Board and audiences are from all over Australia. Artistic Director, Piers Lane AO programs superb artists from overseas and Australia for this 9 day Festival of fine music in intimate venues within the stunning environment of Townsville, Magnetic Island and the North Queensland coast. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors through the Chair, as does the Artistic Director. The Executive Director’s role is to provide strategic, management and financial leadership for the festival – delivering the Festival within an agreed budget. In addition to these financial and management skills, the role requires high level interpersonal skills and an ability to work productively and creatively with a wide range of stakeholders from artists, volunteers, staff and Board members to audiences, donors, the press, suppliers and funding bodies. A background in music and/or the arts is highly desirable. An attractive package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Primary Job Role The AFCM Executive Director’s role is to lead and manage the organisation through forward planning, securing future funding, stakeholder management, developing the budget and managing expenditure, advocacy, marketing, promotion and fundraising. Job Responsibilities The AFCM Executive Director will: Page 1 of 2 Lead and manage the implementation of AFCM’s strategy and business plan Prepare proposals, applications, reports and plans required by funding stakeholders Identify new opportunities for collaboration Provide quality customer service and liaison with external stakeholders and partners Recruit, manage and maintain staff and contractors Develop and manage the implementation of the AFCM’s marketing and promotional plan; ensuring development and currency of new publications and information for internal and external stakeholders Fulfill the role of Secretary in support of the AFCM Board of Directors Represent and advocate for AFCM in Townsville, and nationally, as required Develop the budget for the Business Plan including negotiation with the Artistic Director and other partners Manage expenditure within budget at all times Knowledge and Skills Arts and/or music management experience High level experience in all facets of people management Demonstrated experience in contract, project and issue management Demonstrated ability to market, promote and fundraise High level of written and oral communication skills Negotiation and influencing skills Experience in promotion activities Personal Attributes Comfortable working autonomously and as a team member Strategic thinker Results driven and self motivated Leadership capacity Decision Making Capabilities Operational decisions Management decisions including people management (contractors, consultants) Strategic decisions in consultation with the AFCM Board of Directors Financial aspects of all decisions taken into account Qualifications and Experience Relevant industry experience highly desirable High level of project management experience is essential Page 2 of 2
