Bryan Reif What a wonderful weekend last weekend was! I was very moved by the welcome I received from all of you at the Ice Cream Social. I was told that over 500 people came to the outdoor Ice Cream celebration, many of them quite impressed with the great turn-out! From the moment I entered the undercroft, I began to greet people, and it took me almost an hour to make my way from the doors to where the ice cream was! Even though I was greeted, and greeted many people, I also know that I did not have the chance to speak with and greet everyone present at the event. Thank you to all of you who came to the event, and to all of you who dropped off a card, a note, or a gift in the basket. It was a very special day, and as I said, I was very moved, and continue to be impressed by the parish, by all of you, and especially by the goodness of your hearts, and your dedication to the Faith. This weekend the parish joins our Second Graders in celebrating their First Holy Communion. Over the course of this week, the Second Grade has had some very special activities as a part of their final preparation to receive the sacrament. Last Friday, we had Emmaus Day, where the children had the opportunity to come into church, and to ask me some questions about First Communion, the Faith, priesthood, and a few other “unrelated to religion” questions. The Friday before, we also had the annual “Bread Mass” ,where, after the Homily, the children brought forward and presented different types of bread from all over the world, distinguishing them from the Bread used for the Eucharist. I encourage all of us to continue to pray for our Second Grade as they come to the Altar this weekend to receive Our Lord for the first time. Take Good Care, Fr. JACK COREY Dear Parishioners, Today is a day to celebrate as our second graders receive the Eucharist for the first time. I want to thank our second grade teachers, Joyce Snyder, Lisa Jones and our Prep teacher Rose Altenau for their work in preparing the second graders of our parish for this sacrament. One would be hard pressed to find any place that prepares students for the reception of First Communion as well as the people here I also want to thank all the parents who have brought their children to us for sacramental preparation. It is arguably the most important job we have here at St. Antoninus. I urge all to continue to learn about the Eucharist beyond what was taught in second grade. On the academic side, our seventh graders completed the sweep of the “Its Academic” competition at LaSalle High School. Once again both our seventh grade teams and eighth grade teams won their respective grade levels. The team consisted of Louis Pham, Erin Meyer, Jen Busken, Bailey Venard, Michael DiSanto, Matthew DiSanto, and Michael Wergers. Our undefeated streak has been going since 2012. If you have any questions please contact, [email protected] HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP The month of May has been dedicated by the Church to a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since she is a mother to each of us as well as the patron of the United States of America under the title of Immaculate Conception, we will spend an evening in prayer and petition to her for the needs of our country and its people. There are so many places where her help is needed. We will pray for the conversion of our enemies – terrorists who are murdering and persecuting Christians, Jews, and others. We will pray for the nations in the world that seek domination over other countries and peoples, even the total destruction of some ethnic groups or genocide. We will also pray for those who are killing babies and calling it “reproductive rights.” We will pray for the justices of the Supreme Court in all their decision making – but especially that they use God’s wisdom in the matter concerning the definition of marriage. Come and join us – bringing your own petitions and needs – as we will put them into the loving hands of our mother, Mary, as we pray her rosary and other devotional prayers. Her intervention is so powerful and we are confident of her loving care. Tuesday evening in Chapel at 7:00 PM.
