I am writing with what may seem an unusual request concerning your Mass attendance on Sunday May 3rd and Sunday May 10th. If possible, it would be greatly appreciated if you and your family could attend the 2:00 pm Mass on one or both of those dates. These Masses will include the celebration of First Eucharist for some of our children, a beautiful time for them and their families. The presence of a regular congregation at these special Masses will ensure hospitality, a vigorous participation in the Mass and will inspire the children coming to the Lord’s table for the first time. Our liturgy committee and I want to make every effort to provide a beautiful and memorable experience for our children at the 2 pm Masses, and your participation can help make this happen. Thank you for considering my request and I know you will either attend or pray for us during those Masses. Saint Bridget Catholic Church – April 28th – 6:00 p.m. Please join us for an in-depth discussion of the moral and ethical challenges that can arise at the end of life, not only for ourselves, but when caring for loved ones. What must be done for the terminally ill, including medication, hydration, and nutrition? Who may make these decisions on behalf of our loved ones at the end of life? What legal issues may arise and how should one prepare? The discussion will be led by a panel that will offer their perspective on this important topic, and will allow time for questions from the audience. Monsignor William H. Carr, Pastor of St. Bridget Catholic Church Sincerely in Christ, Monsignor Carr Sister Marie Kerns, Sister of Mercy and Director of Mission and Outreach at Bon Secours Health System. A Message from Monsignor Carr It is with abundant gratitude that I announce to the parish that an extremely generous gift of $308,874 was received from a parish school family to retire the loan on the School Building Fund Project. We thank God for the generosity of this family, their commitment to stewardship, and their willingness to share the blessings which God has bestowed on them. We are blessed by this anonymous gift and thankful for each and every donation made to the School Building Fund. These contributions, too, have helped us retire the original loan of just over one million dollars from the 3.4 million dollar School renovation project that was completed in the fall of 2009. Our school has been a source of Christian formation and quality education for the young people of our parish for more than sixty years. Because this debt has been paid, the St. Bridget School Building Fund envelope will no longer be included in the Offering Envelope sets or the church E-Giving website. All donations designated to the School Building Fund since the loan has been retired will be sent to St. Bridget School for any current school building needs. A new St. Bridget Church Building Fund envelope has been added to the Offering Envelope sets to address special maintenance needs in the parish. E-Giving contributions may also be designated to the Church Building Fund. Thank you for your continued generosity! I am honored to serve this vibrant parish family as its pastor. I look forward to serving with you in building up the Kingdom of God in our community and around the world. May the risen Christ fill your heart with joy, bring you new hope, and bless you with peace. Monsignor Carr Burke Balch, Lawyer and Director of the Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics of the National Right to Life Committee The discussion will take place in the Parish Commons from 6:00- 7:30 p.m. Please plan to stay for light refreshments hosted by the Respect Life Committee. It’s almost Mother’s Day and that means it’s time for CHWC’s ever popular, most delectable fundraiser yet… The Annual Mother’s Day Cake Sale Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, 2015 An assortment of cakes, pies, coffee cakes and other treats homemade by our campers will be available for purchase for $15 after all Masses. On my way up to Baltimore for a special 90th birthday party we stopped in Richmond to visit our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While there on March 23, my husband and I attended 7:30 A.M. Mass at St. Bridget Catholic Church. I became very sick and one of your parishioners was so kind to help me. She stayed with me for quite some time, brought me a glass of water and said that I could sit on the bench outside the restrooms to watch the Mass on the television set. She asked me if I would like Holy Communion - to which I replied that I would if it were at all possible. While listening and watching the Mass - it was wonderful to see my family receiving Holy Communion - one of your Eucharistic Ministers came outside to the hall to bring Holy Communion to me. I eventually ended up at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital after Mass. Upon various tests, they inserted an I.V. into my arm because I was very dehydrated. I wish to “THANK” your two wonderful parishioners who stayed with me and helped me receive Our Lord. You can be very proud of your people and I thank them from the bottom my of heart. Rosary Ministry at St. Mary’s Hospital The Mission Ministry of Bon Secours Richmond is in the initial stages of forming a Rosary Ministry at St. Mary's Hospital. For the past three years, there has been an active Rosary Ministry at St. Francis Medical Center, which has been very successful and has received much positive feed back from patients. In order to establish this ministry at St. Mary’s Hospital, we are in need of volunteers from the community to pray and to lead the Rosary in the St. Mary's Hospital chapel, which will be televised through the closed circuit television system to the patient rooms. We need leaders and responders. You would be asked to do this only once per month. This is a wonderful opportunity to live the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy through Rosary Ministry. If you have any questions, or wish further information, I invite you to contact Peggy Seaton at Seaton5113 @verizon.net, 804-358-2788, community project volunteer coordinator, or Betty Spencer, St. Bridget volunteer contact, [email protected], 804-285-3315. 3 April 19, 2015 Catholic High School Scholarship: If you are an eighth grade student of Saint Bridget Church and you are enrolling in either Saint Gertrude or Benedictine College Preparatory Catholic High School, you are eligible to apply for the Knights of Columbus Catholic High School $1,000 Merit-Based Scholarship. The weekend of April 25/26 we will be offering an assortment of coffee, tea, hot cocoa and chocolate bars. The St. Bridget coffee we are selling is in a beautiful new bag with a fresh seal that will keep that fresh roast taste longer and is still one full pound. Stop by in the commons after Mass to see the wide assortment being offered. Your purchase helps to give an education to children in Carissade, Haiti who would not otherwise have one while helping the farmers in third world countries make a better living. You pay a little more but the coffee, tea and chocolate are fantastic. It is as if you can taste the good you are helping to provide. Help Wanted – We have gotten a number of new volunteers to help sell fair trade products after Mass but we are in need of help once a month after the 5:30 on Saturday. This takes about 15 minutes of your time after mass. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Paul Amrhein at 525-7902 or [email protected], thank you.
