On Palm Sunday (March 29, 2015), Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, often referred to as “Passion Sunday,” marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday. The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross. The biblical account of Palm Sunday can be found in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; and John 12:12-19. This was coupled with the fact that the Sunday collections taken during the blizzard-filled months of February and March went from zero donations during the worst weekend to a maximum of $2,000 for all Masses. Because of this, our income has been the lowest for this same period in the last ten years. Meanwhile, the utility bills and heating expenses for the rectory and the two churches have skyrocketed. We are grateful to all those who have contributed to our GAC, many of whom have given beyond anyone’s expectation. Nevertheless, we have reached just over half our goal of $40,000. This is simply, I believe, because the majority of parishioners were not in church the Sunday it was taken due to inclement weather. I would like to appeal to those parishioners and ask for their prayerful consideration to contribute now toward this vital collection without which we will find it necessary to defray monies from our restoration fund to pay for ordinary expenses. You can use any envelope marked Grand Annual Collection and deposit it in any collection basket or even send your donation through the mail. We thank you for your understanding and participation. Jesus entering Jerusalem Weekly Contributions in Support of our Parish Weekend collection (March 21-22, 2015) Saturday 5:00pm Mass $480.00 Sunday 9:00am Mass 532.00 Sunday 10:30am Mass 320.00 Sunday 12noon Mass 1,101.00 Total: $2,433.00 We are grateful for your financial contribution to the ministry of our Parish. We appeal to the whole community of the North End and to our visitors to support our efforts in restoring Saint Leonard Church. We appreciate your continued support! Holy Week Collections Holy Thursday: for Missionary Society St. James, the Apostle, based at St. Stephen Church in Boston’s North End. Good Friday: for the Church in the Holy Land and for the impoverished local Christians. Holy Saturday & Easter Sunday: the first collection is for the elderly and retired Franciscan friars; the second collection is for our Parish. If you wish to donate toward flowers, candles, and Easter decorations, please pick up a flower envelope and drop it into any of the Holy Week collections. Thank you for your effort in supporting our parish and its mission. At Easter, we honor and celebrate our senior friars. Our Franciscan friars have dedicated their lives to serving the Catholic faithful here and in the Missions throughout the world. Now, it is our turn to fulfill the promises made to care for them in their time of need. Please give generously to the Easter collection, which will directly benefit the senior friars whose health and well-being are made possible solely through the help of our benefactors. Thank you in advance for your support of this critical effort. Electronic Offering We encourage our parishioners and benefactors to use electronic giving to extend their financial support of Saint Leonard Church. For a sustained or single donation, please visit our website at http://saintleonardchurchboston.org/donate. Thank you!
