faith formation, the ministry of
our school, fellowship and works

Facts of Life:
In the seventh month the unborn baby may begin to practice sucking
and may already suck his thumb, some babies are actually born with a
callous on the thumb from sucking it in the womb.
5th Sunday of Easter:
“I am the vine; you are the branches.” With those words Jesus helps us
understand the interconnectedness of relationships between the Father,
Jesus, and his followers. Jesus speaks about himself as the vine and we,
the followers, are the branches that grow from the vine. Vine branches
must be carefully pruned in order for the vine to bear good fruit. We are
the fruitful branches that are "trimmed by" God the Father to produce
good works in the world. When we are examples of God’s love and act
as Jesus did, we provide much fruit. When we fail to do this, we create
a lot of dead wood and produce no fruit. Without the vine, the branches
dry up and die. However, it is only through Jesus when we live by His
words that we can become grafted into the true "vineyard of the Lord"
and produce abundantly all that is good.
Prayer Moment:
Lord Jesus, may we be one with you, draw us close so that we glorify
you and bear fruit for your kingdom.
Vocation View
Jesus, the true vine, promised that if we live in Him we will produce
abundantly. Look for the signs of new life in you. Find ways to
nourish your relationship with Jesus.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK OF OUR PARISH:
Also, remember in your prayers those who are in nursing homes,
sick at home, and all who have received prayer blankets.
If you know of anyone who can benefit from a PRAYER
BLANKET from St. Martin’s, please call the parish office at 6612000, to remind those who need it that the people of St. Martin’s are
praying for their physical, mental and spiritual health.
In April, 2003, new national hospital-patient privacy laws were
enacted. Therefore, many hospitals will not notify St. Martin's of your
admission. If you would like someone from St. Martin's to visit you
in the hospital, please call the parish office to notify us.

The Spare Change Collection this weekend will benefit Mission
Partners Guatemala. They minister in Guatemala. Please be generous
First Eucharist: The Easter season is a
wonderful time for celebrating the Sacraments of
Initiation. Please keep in your prayers our
children who will be making their First Holy Communion at the 11:30
a.m. Mass this weekend. May Jesus surround them with His love as
they receive Him in the Eucharist for the first time.
May Crowning: Our grade school children will have their annual
celebration of May Crowning this Tuesday, May 5th at 7:00 p.m. All
are welcome to join us on Tuesday evening as we honor the Blessed
Virgin.
Blessed by the Spirit: It was a real honor to welcome Archbishop
Schnurr to our St. Martin Community for the celebration of
Confirmation last Thursday evening. Many thanks to all of our
catechists and teachers, as well as parents and sponsors who have such
an important role in the faith formation of our Confirmandi. May our
newly confirmed be blessed with an outpouring of the gifts of the Holy
Spirit throughout their lives.
“One Faith, One Hope, One Love”: We are moving closer to
reaching our goal for the “One Faith, One Hope One Love” Capital
Campaign. We now achieved 79% (606,391.02) of our parish goal of
$765,000.00. A special word of thanks to all of our parishioners who
responded so cordially to the phone-a-thon last Monday evening and
made a pledge. We will continue this outreach this Monday evening,
May 4th and I ask your prayerful discernment and generosity when you
are contacted. The Fund Drive will conclude on Dedication Weekend,
May 16th and 17th when a final opportunity will be offered to make a
pledge/gift so we can make our goal. If everyone in the parish
participates in some way in the campaign, we can raise the final funds
that are needed. May the Lord bless each of you for your generosity
and commitment.
Parish Picnic: Be sure and join us for the Parish Picnic this Friday
evening May 8th at Stricker’s Grove. It’s a great opportunity to come
together for an evening of fun and relaxation as parish family.
God’s Blessings during these days of Spring!,
Fr. Terry

Festival 2015: Important News and Dates to Note
Start searching for cake mix sales. Once again, we will have our fast
moving cake booth and we need a lot of cakes. These cakes, cupcakes,
brownies, pies and cookies will not only supply the Cake Booth, but
also provide desserts for the Sunday Chicken Dinner. Cake covers will
be handed out on the weekends of May 30 & 31 and June 6 & 7.
Volunteer sign-ups will be held after all Masses beginning the weekend
of May 16 & 17. Here is your opportunity to participate in the fun and
contribute to the success of the festival. We need many volunteers, so
we hope you will consider giving some time to this event. We are still
looking for Chairpersons for the Jumbo Poker, Split-The-Pot and Bars
and Bells booths. Being a chairperson is not a difficult job at all.
Please call Margie at 574-1056.
We will also need help for set-up at Harvest Home on June 10 and 11.
Setting up the booths is just one of the hundreds of little chores that
need to be done to get the park ready for the festival. Call Jeff at 3688295 to volunteer.

Marriage Moment
If you're too busy to have a weekly date with your spouse, you may be
too busy. Tonight choose several hours next weekend that you can
devote just to each other. This week the wife plans what to do, next
week it's the husband's turn.
Parenting Pointer
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments." (John 14:15) Just
as God gave us commandments, healthy families have rules that help
keep order and keep the peace. What are some of your family rules? Do
you need any new ones? Let go of outdated ones? Discuss together.
