There are so many levels on which to understand the events of the Passion. The woman who anoints Jesus acts prophetically in a way that the other disciples do not yet grasp. Anointing is for priests, prophets, and kings, and also for the preparation of the dead. It is for healing and for holiness. Her action acknowledges the imminent events of the passion and death of the Lord, and points toward his resurrection and triumph over evil and death. He is priest and victim, prophet and God, King and Lord. All these things are acknowledged in her prophetic anointing. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. MINISTRY FAIR OUR CHURCH, OUR RESPONSIBILITY Please return your Ministry Fair sign-up forms in the collection plate or to the Parish Office. See this weekend’s Bulletin Insert for more information. Thank you for volunteering your time and talent. DOOR LOCKING For security reasons, the doors from the back parking lot (northeast entrance doors) of the church will be opened during the day to allow people to enter the church for prayer. All other doors will be kept locked. There is a door bell at the parish office entrance from the back parking lot. Please ring the bell located on the wall on the east side of the double doors and be patient to give the receptionist time to come from her desk to the doors to let you in. The doors from the church through the hallway to the parish office will also be locked. Please understand that we are doing this for the safety of the employees—not to keep anyone out who has genuine church business. —–— Fr. Cuddy, Fr. Dominic & Fr. THE NEW WEBSITE Please take a moment to review our new website created by our new webmaster, Charles Fallo. It’s at www.SaintThomasLB.org. That’s the same web address we had before. We ask ministries and groups to help make sure that our website is up to date and informative. MARCH 29, 2015——PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD ST. THOMAS PARISH PALOOZA Our yearly parish gathering this year is a Parish Palooza (festival). It’s a great time to spend time with parish members as a family. There is no charge for entrance. Tickets will be sold to purchase food, drink items and games etc. For $50 you can purchase a chance to win a new car! Our fundraiser this year is a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze LS donated by Turan Foley Chevrolet-BuickCadillac on Hwy 49 in Gulfport. It’s on the Parish property. Tickets for the car have been mailed to all members of the Parish but more are available at the church office. We need your help! If you are part of the Condolence Committee, we ask your help to provide desserts. Committee members can bring them to the parish hall on Saturday, April 18th between 9 and 10. If you have any questions. please contact Margaret Chapman at [email protected] or 228-596-1587 Volunteers are needed to help monitor the games, sell tickets after Mass April 11-12th and bakers to donate cakes for the cake walk. If you own a business and can donate a prize or a gift certificate, it would be greatly appreciated. We also need money donations to purchase the food items, children’s games, rental of tents, etc. Please put any donation amount in an envelope, mark it “Parish Palooza” and drop it in the weekly collection basket during Mass. All are welcome to donate NEW items that would be suitable for the silent auction. For example – last year Parish members donated sports memorabilia, beautiful ceramic pieces, holiday wreaths, quilts, fishing trips, etc. Donors will be recognized in our parish bulletin and if a business donation, also at the event where your business card will be displayed with items donated. A list of donors will also be included on our website. Contact Linda Shirk at 228 547 7921 or [email protected] if you have a question or please drop off your item at the Parish office. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 18th from 11am – 4pm. Bring your portable chairs and plan for a afternoon of fun! Remember all proceeds benefit our Support for Youth Ministry. ST. The amount varies each year based on the parish’s offering income. There are two rates of tuition at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School, St. Patrick High School and Our Lady Academy—the lowest rate is Catholic subsidized by the parish. To be eligible for this rate for Grades K-12, a family must be registered in the parish, attend Mass here at St. Thomas regularly, and contribute to the support of the parish by using their church support envelopes or the electronic method of making regular church offerings. A form to request parish subsidy approval may be obtained from the school office and should be turned in to the parish office for completion. It is so important for families to attend Mass with their children. Your financial support is greatly appreciated and needed. CATHOLIC SCHOOL TUITION Applications for tuition assistance are available at the parish office for families who have children in Grade K-12 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School, St. Stanislaus, Our Lady Academy, and St. Patrick High School. To be eligible, a parish registered family must be attending church here at St. Thomas and supporting the church through the electronic method of making regular contributions or the church support envelopes. St. Vincent families may apply through FACTS (see the school office); a paper application may be obtained from the parish office. Deadline is April 30, 2015.
